Jere Brophy, in His writing of Effective Teaching, introduced to us the 12 principles of Effective

Teaching. First, supportive Classroom refers to a class that support and help each other. They

cooperate and work of their task collaboratively. Second, opportunity to learn use most of the

available to related activities and classroom management. This teaching focus on having activities that

will deliver the lesson to the learners. Third, the curricular alignment shows all components are

aligned to produce a cohesive program. Cohesive programs means firm and organize. Fourth,

establishing learning orientation provides initial structure to clarify the possible outcomes of activities.

To orient them shows a way of guiding them to what they should do and how to handle challenges

during the task. Fifth, coherent content facilitates meaningful learning and content is explain very well.

It is not confusing but has a direct instruction so the learners could follow it by their own selves. Sixth,

thoughtful discourse use questions to engage students and sustain powerful ideas. Questions create

discussions that could lead to sharing of ideas and discovering new information. Seventh, practice and

application gives sufficient opportunities for their learning and improvement. Not only the students

will sit and listen, but applying as well through actions could reveal such personal reflection and

learning to every student. Eighth, scaffolding the students task means assisting to engage in learning.

Teachers act like a ladder to them in receiving information according to their level and knowledge.

Ninth, strategy teaching have teacher as a model and instructs students in learning and self regulation

strategies. There are varieties of teaching style and it is up to the teacher to set a strategy to a

particular class in accordance to what they need. Tenth, cooperative learning work in pairs to monitor

progress. There are common teachers in pair inside the classroom which is very helpful in managing

the class. Eleventh, goal oriented assessment uses variety of assessment to monitor progress. Lastly,

achievement expectation establishes an appropriate expectation to every activities and to each

student.

As we discuss the 12 principles in effective teaching in this class, we had our poster by pair. I was

with Gosia and we focus on scaffolding students task. We have define it and create five important key

points in this principle of effective teaching. So, we agreed to define scaffolding the students task as

helping studetns involve and commit on learning activities. The first point of it motivating them to

learn. As we created a symbol of learning, we think that motivation should be the first step so they

could engage to the teacher, fellow students and to the knowledge they are about to take. Second,
assist the students in their activities. When they get motivated to learn, they will be having the

learning and application. Thus, it is very important to see teachers assist them as they perform

activities. Third, teachers create impact in students experience. A good teacher that contributes

learning to a student will be remembered even they separated. It is the task of the teacher to

influence students in good behavior and useful knowledge so they could do the same thing to the

next generation. Fourth, teachers should not forget to provide guidance and feedback. To develop

their learning, they need suggestions and opinions from a person with authority in the classroom and

that is the teacher. Consistent talk to them and telling them feed backs to their performance is helpful.

Finally, challenge students to create application in learning. Not only they participate in an activity for

applying what they learned but also practicing it in their own life outside the classroom. It is bringing

out the learning to the community performing the good learning they have taken from the classroom.
