DCS5_GAD_INST_E_B.DOC
What is new in ver- The new GAD version 2.44-1 is basically the same as version
sion 2.44-1 2.43-4, with following enhancements:
New drivers for Security Device, which allows running GAD
also under Windows NT4.0, 2000 and XP.
A new DCS500C compiler, which allows 16383 pins in a
design instead of 8192.
Instead of 20 symbol index attributes, new DCS500C com-
piler can now handle 30 of them (attributes 20...49 named
Index1...Index30). The ECS.INI files have attributes added.
Version number of DCS500C compiler is now 1.04.
SETUP programs are totally new.
Starting setup from Setups can be started from CD ROM, from a temporary directory or
from disks.
temporary directory Save the desired setup (file name: SETUPEX.EXE) into a tempo-
rary directory.
Please note, all setups of program and libraries have the file name
SETUPEX.EXE, so please create different temporary directories for
different setups.
C:\TEMP\GAD).
disks Installation disks can be created from CD ROM. By using e.g. Win-
dows explorer you will find the contents of disks as subdirectories
of the GAD program or libraries.
GAD Program : <CD drive>:\\G2441D\144MB\disk...
Libraries : <CD drive>:\\LIB1xxD\144MB\disk
with xx for desired library version.
Copy the contents of these subdirectories to formatted and empty
disks and label each disk (e.g. G2441D disk 1 )
For installation please start the file SETUP.EXE of disk1.
Running setup During installation answer questions and follow the instructions
given by installation program.
Installation of Sentinel For working with security device the Sentinel system driver is nec-
System Driver essary. This driver is not necessary for Windows 3.1x.
If there is already installed a Sentinel SuperPro driver (from Rain-
bow), it will also run with the GAD program.
Please note: The installed driver takes effect when you restart
your computer.
Environments of file The GAD installation will add environments into the file
Autoexec.bat AUTOEXEC.BAT, which are:
PATH=C:\ABBCDTS;%PATH%
SET ECS_ROOT=C:\ABBCDTS
Please note for Windows 3.1x
Please check the file Autoexec.bat, that these environments
are implemented before command WIN is executed.
Installed environments are effected after restarting the com-
puter.
Please note for Windows 95/98/ME
Installed environments are effected after restarting the com-
puter.
Before starting GAD pro- The following is to be done before starting GAD program:
gram Plug security device on parallel port (LPT1).
Please note: The GAD program has to find the security device
during starting. Without having found security device the pro-
gram will work in demo mode, which means that no modifica-
tions can be saved.
Please note at the first time and if another library version is desi-
red:
The directory of desired DCS 500 library is to be written into
ECS.INI file by using ECS.INI Editor of the GAD program. Plea-
se see pages 9-16 up to 9-18 of GAD Manual Getting Started
for more information.
Sentinel System Driver Sentinel System driver is used for GAD security device, but can
also be used for other devices.
Please note: If you are sure, that these drivers are not used with
other applications, remove Sentinel System Driver.
Removing under If security device driver is installed, select Run... from File menu of
Windows 3.1x Program Manager.
Removing under Click Start button on taskbar and select Settings -> Control Panel.
Windows 95/98/ME
Windows NT/2000/XP
Programs and libraries Programs and libraries have been installed with 16-bit setup, so
these can not be found under Add/Remove programs.
With opened CDTools program folder double click Uninstall icon.
Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP:
If you not have the CD Tools program folder open, click Start button on
taskbar and select Programs -> CDTools -> Uninstall.
Uninstall the rest To uninstall all separately installed Symbol Libraries and all other
files added into C:\ABBCDTS directories after GAD installation,
please open Windows Explorer (or File Manager) and delete the
whole GAD directory (default: C:\ABBCDTS).
Uninstall icons and Depending on SETUPs used for installation, it may be that some
CDTools icons are left in CDTools program folder too.
To delete program folder from Windows 95 to Windows XP, click
Start button on taskbar and select Settings -> Taskbar... or Settings
-> Taskbar & Start Menu... (depends on operating system).
Select Programs, in the right pane select CDTools, and press Del-
key. It is possible that you will get error messages, but ignore them.
Delete environments GAD environments for the default GAD directory are:
PATH=C:\ABBCDTS;%PATH%
SET ECS_ROOT=C:\ABBCDTS
Windows 3.1x/95/98/ME:
Edit the file autoexec.bat and delete both GAD environments.
Windows NT/2000/XP:
If the file Autoexec.bat exists on C:\, edit this file and delete both
GAD environments. If this file contains only these environments,
then you can delete the complete file.
If environments are added by an advanced user, these both en-
vironments can be deleted out of Environments Variables of Sys-
tem Properties.
Speeding up installation Because there is a big amount of files to install, the installation can
for Windows 3.1x take quite long, unless you have the write cache of Smartdrv en-
abled.
To check, whether the write cache is enabled or not, go to DOS-
prompt and write command:
SMARTDRV /S
The column "write cache" for the drive containing the temporal di-
rectory and the installation destination drive should state Yes. If not,
write following command (assuming installation destination is
C:\ABBCDTS and temporal directory is D:\TEMP):
SMARTDRV C+ D+
Exit from DOS-prompt before starting SETUP.
If you had to change caching status, remember to restore status af-
ter you have finished installation.
Assuming the status of C-drive was changed from no caching (col-
umn read cache contained No) and D-drive was changed from
read caching (column read cache contained Yes):
SMARTDRV C- D
Warning: Do not switch power off or reset your computer while
write caching is on.
ECS.INI The ECS.INI file, which is located in subdirectory data of GAD pro-
gram, can also be modified by using an editor.
For exchanging current library modify the four lines with the direc-
tory of the library.
Please note:
The program can not handle more than ten directories, even
some of them are disabled by setting to No.
Use capital letters for directory names.
Changes are effected after restarting the GAD programs.
