3. GENERAL: -

i. The ducts are made from GI sheet as ASTM A 653/A 653M FS Type B with G60/Z180
coating as per standards and approved construction schedule. The proposed GI duct work
is used to distribute treated air from the Air Handling units/Fan coil units to be confined
space to be conditioned with specific temperature. Also the proposed ductwork is used to
extract foul air from the toilets and kitchen hoods from the occupied space and for
ventilation purpose.
ii. HVAC duct work generally includes all types of Supply Air Duct, Return Air Duct, Fresh
and Exhaust Air Duct and their accessories such as duct elbows, offsets, transformation
pieces, branch off pieces, tee connections, access doors, split damper, fire dampers,
motorized fire and smoke dampers, volume control dampers, sound attenuators, flexible
duct connector and insulation.
iii. Heat flows from a higher temperature region to one at a lower level of temperature. Hence
there is a continuous flow of heat. Any material that offers resistance to the flow of heat
through it is known as thermal insulation.

the materials are as per approved material submittals.
2. Prior to commencement of work, areas and access will be inspected to CE/SE/SS
confirm that site is ready to commence the work.
3. Check all the gauges and dimensions of the duct ensure it is as per SE/SS
the approved shop drawing. Also check the pre-fabricated ducts are
with tag number labelled as per the approved shop drawings.

When Insulation materials are received at stores, checked for any

damage. The material will be checked for density, thickness, area and
quality etc as per the specification and approved technical details.
4. Ensure proper storing/handling of the ducts without damaging the SS/FM
surface and ensure that the materials are the stacked in a dry place,
and as per manufacturers recommendation.
5. All GI Ducts shall be manufactured in accordance with standards and CE/SE/SS

6.2.1 Method of Installation (Thermal Insulation) Responsibility

Ensure whether the following details are adhered while starting insulation. CM/CE/SE

Duct work (Conditioned Area):-

Thickness Proposed: 25 mm thick fiber glass insulation for all conditioned area.
The density of the insulation material shall be 24 kg/cu.m (Supply air ducts,
extract air ducts, transfer air ducts etc. within the building)

Duct work (Unconditioned Area)

a) Thickness Proposed: 50 mm thick fiber glass insulation for
unconditioned areas. The density of insulation material shall be 48
kg/cu.m.
b) All kitchen exhaust duct insulation will be carried out by fibre glass
insulation material of 50 mm thickness
1 Clean surface area of the duct to be insulated to make it dust free. SS/FM
2. Fix self adhesive based stuck-up pins at 300 mm centers at bottom side of CE/SE
ducts. Position pins leaving 100 mm from the joints and corners of the
duct.
3. Apply approved insulation adhesive with an event spread on complete SE/SS/FM
surface of insulation sheet.
4. Mark the duct size on glass side of the board, not on facing side and make SE/SS/FM
V grove to match fix sized corners of the duct.
5. Fix the insulation already cut to the size of the board, not on facing side SE/SS/FM
and make V grove to match fix sized corners of the duct.
6. Place the overlap in place and fix to the adjacent surface by using special SE/SS/FM
stapler at 300 mm centres.
7. Wipe out any dust, wet-spilled out adhesive surface by means of dry SE/SS/FM

aluminium film with rubber based self adhesive.

9. Press the tape to the substrate uniformly using any smooth edged plastic CE/SS/FM
card and make sure no wrinkles are formed. Purpose not allow any free
passage of air within the bond which otherwise may weaken the system.

bubbles.
12. Ensure whether proper spacing is provided for insulation between duct SS/FM
and supports
13. When GI duct comes in contact with duct hangers, rigid support is CE/SS/FM
recommended such as section of wood.
14. Ensure that insulation applied is finished smooth and straight without CE/SS/FM
damages. Incase of any damage, maintain the continuity of vapour barrier
by applying Kraft paper with fibre glass reinforced self adhesive tape.
15. For ductwork over 600 mm, the insulation shall be further held in position SE/SS/FM
by means of self adhesive pins fixed to the duct work and the insulation
impaled on the pins and fastened with self locking retaining washers.
16. Ensure that all the Volume control dampers, fire dampers and other CE/SE/FM
accessories of duct are neatly insulated and the handles are operable.

6.2.2 Method of Installation (Acoustic Lining) Responsibility

Definition:
Acoustic lining is used to line an air conditioned ducts in order to control air bound noise.
Sound liner is specially designed to provide expected sound absorption to acoustically as air
conditioned equipment.

Specification:
The insulation material shall be of Fibre glass of 25 mm thick and 24kg/cu.m density.
METHOD OF INSTALLATION
1. Clean inside surface area of the duct and make it dust free. CE/SE/FM
2. Ensure the length of duct to be acoustically treated as per approved shop CE/SE/FM
drawing.
3. Cut the required section and sizes corresponding to the duct sizes with a CE/SE/FM
sharp edge knife.
4. Apply the adhesive all four sides uniformly in the internal duct surface CE/SE/FM
and allow the adhesive to soak for sometime.
5. Ensure the distance of acoustic lining is maintained from unit as per CE/SE/FM
specification standards.
