Introduction
The program for Rabies and Fire Prevention month was conceived with the community safety in
mind. The program aims to have a community free from rabies and fire hazard. Also, one of its objectives
is to have complete and total awareness and cooperation from the members of the community which will
be a joint effort along with the student nurses and the community health care team members in eradicating
the dangers that entails rabies and fire hazards. The program will also encourage the community to have a
safer environment, one that is habitable for both humans and domesticated animals free from danger from
both parties.
Rabies is a human infection that occurs after a transdermal bite or scratch by an infected animal,
like dogs and cats. It can be transmitted when infectious material, usually saliva, comes into direct contact
with a victims fresh skin lesions. Rabies may also occur, though in very rare cases, through inhalation of
Rabies is considered to be a neglected disease, which is 100% fatal though 100% preventable. It is not
among the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in the country but it is regarded as a significant
public health problem because (1) it is one of the most acutely fatal infection and (2) it is responsible for

Proclamation No. 115A as declared to be the official observation of Fire Prevention Month during the
month of March is promoted to provide education and awareness to lessen the incidence of fire in the
Philippines. The Philippine Summer can cause about 9,000 10,000 fire incidents nationwide.
