Introduction
The program for Rabies and Fire Prevention month was conceived with the community safety in

mind. The program aims to have a community free from rabies and fire hazard. Also, one of its objectives

is to have complete and total awareness and cooperation from the members of the community which will

be a joint effort along with the student nurses and the community health care team members in eradicating

the dangers that entails rabies and fire hazards. The program will also encourage the community to have a

safer environment, one that is habitable for both humans and domesticated animals free from danger from

both parties.

Rabies is a human infection that occurs after a transdermal bite or scratch by an infected animal,

like dogs and cats. It can be transmitted when infectious material, usually saliva, comes into direct contact

with a victims fresh skin lesions. Rabies may also occur, though in very rare cases, through inhalation of

virus-containing spray or through organ transplants.

Rabies is considered to be a neglected disease, which is 100% fatal though 100% preventable. It is not

among the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in the country but it is regarded as a significant

public health problem because (1) it is one of the most acutely fatal infection and (2) it is responsible for

the death of 200-300 Filipinos annually.

March happens to be one of the hottest months in the country. According to Philippine

Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), it is around this month

when temperature and humidity starts to reach high levels, causing "high sensible temperature" in the

country. The hot dry season in the country usually runs from March to May. According to the Bureau of

Fire Protection (BFP), an average of 9 fire incidents nationwide are happening everyday. Presidential

Proclamation No. 115A as declared to be the official observation of Fire Prevention Month during the

month of March is promoted to provide education and awareness to lessen the incidence of fire in the

Philippines. The Philippine Summer can cause about 9,000 10,000 fire incidents nationwide.

LEARNING CONTENT:

1. Ano ang Rabies?

Ang rabies ay isang mapanganib na sakit na nakakahawa at nakamamatay. Ito ay sanhi ng virus

(Rhabdovirus) na nakukuha sa laway ng hayop na may rabies.

Ang rabies ay isang dahilan sa pagkamatay ng 200 hanggang 300 na Pilipino bawat taon
Ang DOH ay may layunin na maging Rabies free ang ating bansa sa taong 2020
Ang buwan ng Marso ay idineklarang Rabies Awareness month

2. Paano ito nakukuha?

Karaniwan itong nakukuha sa kagat ng mga hayop na kung saan ang kanilang laway ay mayroong

rabies virus
Maaari din itong makuha sa kalmot ng isang hayop na may rabies
Maaari din itong maipasa sa tao sa pamamagitan ng isang organ transplant

3. Panahon ng Paglabas ng Sintomas

Karaniwang lumalabas ang mga sintomas sa loob ng 2 hanggang 6 na linggo. Maaari din itong

umabot ng isang taon depende kung gaano kalala ang sugat, layo nito sa utak at dami ng virus na

nailipat.

4. Mga sintomas ng taong may rabies

Masakit ang ulo

Lagnat
Paninigas ng mga kasukasuhan
Pagkatakot sa tubig
Pagbaba ng panramdam sa paligid ng kagat ng hayop
Paglalaway
Pagiging sensitibo sa ilaw o ingay

Mga sintomas ng asong may rabies

Nagiging mabangis o mabagsik

Tumatakbo ng walang direksyon
Nangangagat ng kahit anong bagay
Naglalaway ng labis
Hindi makakain o makainom ng tubig
 (*Kung ang aso ay kinakikitaan ng ganitong sintomas, ito ay kalimitang namamatay sa loob ng 3

hanggang 7 araw)

5. Ano ang dapat gawin kapag nakagat ng aso?

Kaagad hugasan ang sugat ng sabon at malinis na tubig. (10 minuto)

Pumunta sa pinaka malapit na pagamutan upang mabigyan ng anti-tetanus injection
Obserbahan ang aso sa loob ng 2 linggo. Kapag ang aso ay namatay o naulol, pumunta kaagad sa

doctor
Kapag may rabies ang aso, patayin ito at kunin ang ulo nito upang masuri at mapag aralan sa

laboratoryo
Magpabakuna kaagad habang hinihintay ang resulta
Kapag nakagat ng hindi kilala o hindi natagpuang aso, magpabakuna kaagad

6. Paano maging responsableng tagapag alaga ng hayop?

Pabakunahan ang inyong alagang aso laban sa rabies kapag itoy 3 buwan na at taon-taon

pagkatapos
Huwag pabayaan ang inyong alagang aso na gumala sa kalsada
Alagaan ang inyong aso: paliguan, bigyan ng malinis na pagkain at inumin at panatilihing malinis

Upang maiwasan ang mga sunog mula sa pagluluto, manatili sa kusina at pagtuunan ang iyong

niluluto at isara ang tangke pagkatapos magluto.

Kung kailangan iwanan ang kusina, patayin ang kagamitan sa pagluluto.
Ugaliin na hindi nakasaksak ang mga appliances kapag hindi ginagamitz
Upang maiwasan ang mga sunog mula sa linya ng kuryente, magpakumpuni o magpaayos ng

inyong kuryente sa mga lisensyadong kontratista sa elektrisidad

Upang maiwasan ang mga sunog na mula sa paninigarilyo, huwag manigarilyo sa loob ng bahay
Huwag mag iwan ng posporo o kandila na maaaring maabot at paglaruan ng mga bata
Ugaliin na makinig sa mga payo ng magulang
