GOAT INDUSTRY PERFORMANCE REPORT i

EXPLANATORY NOTES

This annual report on the performance of goat industry in the

country provides data on herd inventory by age classification,
volume of production, supply and disposition of live herd, which
includes death and slaughter; and farmgate prices.

Goat data are generated through the Backyard and

Commercial Livestock and Poultry Surveys, which are being
conducted twice a year in every province. The Backyard Livestock
and Poultry Survey (BLPS) covers one (1) of the four (4) replicate
samples of the Rice and Corn Production Survey (RCPS) consisting
of 9,316 sample households in 662 sample barangays nationwide.
The Commercial Livestock and Poultry Survey (CLPS) covers about
305 commercial goat farms with farm capacity of 20 or more head
regardless of age. Data on goat slaughtered in abattoirs are
captured in the survey of abattoirs, which is being undertaken by
Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) in collaboration with the
National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS).
