CourseDescription
Throughtheriseofmasstimber,oneoftheworldsoldestbuilding
materialshasbeenreimaginedasasustainablealternativeto
concreteandsteel.Innovationsinsolidwoodbuildingsystems,
whichincludelargeengineeredwoodmemberssuchasglue
laminatedtimber(GLT),laminatedveneerlumber(LVL)andcross
laminatedtimber(CLT),havecreatednewopportunitiesforwood,
whetherthatmeansgoingtaller,spanningfarther,orbuilding
faster.Drivenbywoodslightenvironmentalfootprint,largescale
woodbuildingsaroundtheworldarehelpingtospurbuildingcode
changes,improvewoodbasedeconomiesanddemonstratethe
untappedpotentialofthisversatilematerial.Thispresentationwill
provideinsightintothesenew,excitingarchitecturaldevelopments
throughdetailedcasestudiesthatwillexpandyourperceptionof
woodspossibilities.
