Final Project: Persuasive Essay

______________________________________________________________________________
___________________________

Directions: Write one cohesive essay as a book club. You will be writing
about one or two of your essential questions, and you will use your book as
the primary source for doing so. In addition, you will be required to use at
least two other secondary sources. Follow the direction provided, and take a
look at the rubric (on back) in order to gain a full understanding of what you
are expected to do.

Write an essay on the following prompt:

Based on your literature circle book, write a persuasive

essay answering one or two of your essential questions.

Requirements:

Names, lit circle book, and hour in the top right corner of the first page
AT least 8 paragraphs (minimum 3 FULL pages)
Minimum of 2 secondary sources
AT LEAST 6 quotes from your book and AT LEAST 2 quotes from outside
sources
DO NOT write in first person (I, me, mine)
Typed: 12 pt., no funky fonts, double spaced, 1 margins
Page number in the bottom right corner
MLA citation and works cited page (does not count towards your 3
page total!!)
Completed outline from each group member attached to the final copy
Essay format:
o Introduction- Should contain a hook/lead with background info
before a thesis or introduction to your topic of discussion
o Body- should elaborate on the topics you mentioned in the
introduction, complete with transition sentences and separate
paragraphs for separate ideas. Remember: PIE (Present, Insert
[quote/example], Explain)
o Conclusion- Synthesize everything you talked about.
Sometimes it helps to restate your thesis in different words if you
are stuck, but remember to include whatever you elaborated on
in your body paragraph.

Special Notice: Notice that you are writing this paper as a book club. Yes,
this means that the work is cut down significantly from person to person, but
it is CRUCIAL that the paper flows as a cohesive unit. This means that extra
time may need to be put into editing, revising, and reading over the final
copy before turning it in. Consider this before choosing this option.

Your final essay (along with this rubric and drafts/outlines) will be due on:

Final Project: Art Project

______________________________________________________________________________
___________________________

Directions: Create one piece of artwork as a book club. Your art should be a
representation of your book club book; it should tell us a story without using
words. Paper and pencil will not be acceptable. It is your job to create a 3
dimensional piece that is visually pleasing. Seeing as this is a group project,
every group member must be responsible for a significant part in creating
the piece. Follow the direction provided, and take a look at the rubric (on
back) in order to gain a full understanding of what you are expected to do.

Base your project off the following prompt:

Create an art piece that represents an overarching theme

or conflict from your book.

Requirements:

Piece must be three dimensional

Multiple modes of art used (paint, markers, felt, clay, cardboard, paper
Mache, etc.)
Large enough to be seen from across the room
Visually pleasing to the eye (time and effort are clearly displayed in the
piece)
Be ready to share your piece in front of the class and explain its
connection to the book.
Piece has a clear connection to the book (and an essential question if
applicable!)
o If the artwork is more abstract, it must make sense once it is
explained in front of the class.
A one page write up (double spaced) explaining what your art piece
represents, why you chose to create it, why you chose to focus on this
theme/symbol from the book, and who in your group was responsible
for what in creating the piece
Special note: If your group is self aware that you are severely lacking in
artistic abilities, this option may not be for you. I am not expecting Picasso
(by any means), but this project does require a finished piece that looks like
a junior in high school created it (stick figures wont cut it).

** You will have some time to work on this during class**

Your final art piece (along with this rubric and drafts/outlines) will be due on:

Final Project: Movie Clip

______________________________________________________________________________
___________________________

Directions: Create a movie clip that reflects a major theme, idea, or an

answer to an essential question that you gained from the text. Each group
member is crucial in order to get a good grade on this project. Though not
every person needs to be featured in the film, each member must have a
role in creating the final piece. Follow the direction provided, and take a look
at the rubric (on back) in order to gain a full understanding of what you are
expected to do.

Base your project off the following prompt:

Create a video clip that accurately reflects a major theme, idea, or

an answer to an essential question from your book.

Requirements:

o Scene selected is a pivotal moment in the book (climax, surprising

resolution, conflict, etc.)
o NO LESS than 3 minutes of film and NO MORE than 6 minutes.
o At least two direct quotes from the book (can be dialogue or written
words)
o The majority of the scene is dialogue between characters or high
intensity action (make it interesting).
o AT least 2 actors
o THE END of your scene should speak to the audience directly; it should
ask the audience to think more deeply on an issue in society (or
essential question) that is also connected to your book.
o Example: In the last five minutes of the movie Dope, Malcolm
speaks directly to the viewers about racial issues going on in
society today.
o A one page write up (double spaced) that explains the scene you chose
(and page numbers), why you chose this scene, what essential
question, theme, or conflict it is portraying or connects to, and who
was responsible for what in the creation of your short film.

** You will have two days of in class time to work on this **

Your final art video (along with this rubric and drafts/outlines) will be due on:

answer to an essential question that you gained from the text. Each group

every person needs to be featured in the film, each member must have a
role in creating the final piece. Follow the direction provided, and take a look
at the rubric (on back) in order to gain a full understanding of what you are
expected to do.

Base your project off the following prompt:

Create a movie trailer that accurately reflects a major theme, idea,

or an answer to an essential question from your book.

Requirements:

o Trailer accurately encompasses your text as a whole. It should have a

beginning, middle, and end (similar to a movie trailer that gives away
the entire plot and ending to the movie)
o Like the movie clip, your trailer should somehow answer an essential
question or expose a major theme or idea from your book.
o NO LESS than 3 minutes of film and NO MORE than 6 minutes.

other words, make it believable)

record certain moments/scenes from your book, what essential
question, theme, or conflict it is portraying, and who was responsible
for what in the creation of your short film.
