Bypass Fan Report

Findings:

1-High vibration at the fan seats

Measurement Point Horizontal (mm/s) Vertical (mm/s) Axial(mm/s)

Motors Bearing 2.8 5.3 2.5

Fan Fixed Bearing 8.4 3.2 6.5
Fan Free Bearing 4.9 1.5 4

2-Misallignment (we couldnt take measurements on the face of the couplings due to
the defects in the coupling)

4-Fan Bearings Clearances (both are in operating range according to SKF )

Fixed Bearing 150 m

(22232/C3)
Free Bearing 100 m
(22232/C3)

5-both bearing seats have clearances between the top cover and the outer race of the
bearings and there are marks on the top cover and the bearings which indicates that
there was a relative motion between both the outer race and the top cover

Recommendations:

1- its very important to take periodic vibration analysis once a month for all process
fans to prevent any abrupt shutdowns
2- change the coupling
3- clean the blades from the coated material (due to cracks and opened cleaning
holes)
4- change (repair if possible ) both seats for the fan
5- install packings between the casing flanges to prevent any false air

Actions have been taken:

1-Free bearing has been replaced which was in a good condition, based on owner
mechanical manager instruction.

Elements of the replaced bearings are clearly in good condition!! (Both rows)

2-all of the 12 blades have been cleaned

3-all the cracks and holes in the blades have been welded

Welding of one of the fan blades

4-aligment has been corrected as good as possible

5-packing has been installed between the casing flanges and holes in the casing have
been welded

Vibration measurements after the corrective actions
