II. Summary of Lesson

Day 1
Students start with writing down what they already know about membrane transport.
Afterwards, they will get into groups of four or five and will be assigned a method that
they break out of jail (see PowerPoint). Students will then use textbook and clues in the
PowerPoint (if needed) to see which method of membrane transport their method of
jailbreak is most like. Once they have discovered their method of membrane transport,
they draw a diagram of the process on the back of their worksheet.

Day 2
Students will briefly discuss results of previous day. They will then diagram and label
their membrane transport method on a whiteboard. Once all groups are done, they will
carry a pack of sticky notes and look at each whiteboard in a gallery walk. For each
whiteboard, students will write questions they have on a sticky note and post the note on
the whiteboard. After the gallery walk, the groups will present their method of membrane
transport and respond to the posted questions and any additional questions the instructor
may have.
