Course Description
Through a synthesis of knowledge, understanding, and experiences gathered throughout the program, students will conduct a culminating
research project. Over the course of the semester, students will sharpen their interest of study, identify the appropriate research design, and
carry out their project. Upon completion of the project, students will communicate their findings with the college and relevant community of
practices.

Course Outcomes
Successful completion of this course will enable the student to:
1. Write a formal research proposal
2. Select an appropriate research design and methodology to carry out a social research project
3. Analyze data gathered through research
4. Interpret findings
5. Write a research report and communicate contributions with relevant community of practice
6. Write a clear and coherent report using correct grammar, mechanics, and documentation style appropriate for the defined purpose and
audience
7. Demonstrate interprofessional communication skills in classroom and community settings
8. Act in a manner consistent with professional ethical practice
Unit Outcomes
Successful completion of the following units will enable the student to:
1.0 Introduction to social research project
1.1 Examine Social Research with reference to early learning community and/or community of practice
1.2 Discuss the significance of Social Research in the early learning community and/or relevant community of practice
1.3 Articulate steps in the research process relevant to Social Research project in the early learning community and/or community
of practice
1.4 Practice professional communication with the community as emerging researchers in the community
2.0 Development of Social Research Project
2.1 Refine research question in Social Research project applicable to the early learning community and/or community of practice
2.2 Examine relevant literature to the area of study identified in Social Research project
2.3 Synthesize relevant literature into a literature review that is applicable to research question in Social Research project
2.4 Investigate methodologies that would support answering identified research question applicable to Social Research project
2.5 Propose a research methodology that would attempt to answer the research question that has been selected to investigate in
Social Research project
2.6 Select an appropriate method to analyze data that will be gathered in the Social Research project
3.0 Ethical Conduct in Social Research
3.1 Identify pertinent ethical considerations when conducting Social Research in the community
3.2 Apply ethical considerations to specific area of interest for the proposed Social Research project in the community
3.3 Demonstrate ethical conduct while conducting Social Research project in the community
4.0 Conducting a Social Research Project
4.1 Compose a formal research proposal for the Social Research project
4.2 Gather appropriate data that attempts to answer the identified research question in the Social Research project
4.3 Analyze data to determine the findings of the Social Research project
4.4 Organize findings of research study to determine if research question was answered in the initial research proposal for the
Social Research project
5.0 Culminating Research Report
5.1 Revise original research proposal to explain the details of the Social Research project
5.2 Write a culminating research report to explain how the Social Research project that was executed in the community
5.3 Explain in further detail how the data was analyzed in the Social Research project
5.4 Articulate the findings of the Social Research project in a culminating research report
5.5 Propose recommendations derived from the findings of the Social Research project that are applicable to the early learning
community and/or community of practice
