not need to own a bicycle. You can simply ride your
heart out by renting one in the large parks. Bike rentals
are available at Hangang Park so you can enjoy biking
along the river. Lets explore every corner moun-
tains, rivers, cities on a bicycle!
Walking the
Hanyangdoseong Trail
Surrounding Jongno, the Hanyangdoseong (Seoul City
Wall) Trail is a treasure on which you can see the Four
Great Gates. A walk on this trail is the best way to get
closer to the oldest stories of Seouls past.

Lets go on an easy trek into the mountains that sur-
round Seoul! You are bound to enjoy whichever part of
the trail you pick, as well as have a healthy vacation
experiencing Seouls nature. Lets walk these forest

Hiking
The mountains where you can truly experience
Seouls four seasons are destinations that are always
open and accessible to locals and visitors alike.
You can choose to either leisurely walk around the
grounds or climb up to the summits. Thanks to the
subway system, anyone can experience Seouls
mountains in just half a day. The big and small
mountains, some of which are just a bus ride away
from Seoul, are full of hikers every weekend.
Hangang River Leisure
Even without preparation, you can take advantage of
the leisure activities available around the Hangang
River, including jet skiing and sightseeing along
the riverside by motorboat. By experiencing Seoul
through the beautiful river, not as a city of skyscrap-
ers, you will get a chance to fully experience all that
Seoul has to offer.
Camping
The beautiful mountains and Hangang River of Seoul
are natural treasures. For bohemian travelers who
refuse ordinary hostels, there are camping sites that
are hidden around Seoul. There is no better way to
experience a Seoul night in nature than camping.

Riding a Bike
at the Hangang
River
The Hangang parks system is one
of the most popular and multi-fac-
eted sites in Seoul. Large streams
that cross Seoul feed the 12 parks
that make up the Hangang Park. If
you enjoy biking, you can go on a
bike ride and feel the wind through
your hair. There is no closing time,
so you can enjoy the atmosphere
along the river even into the late
night.
The bike rides along the river are
unique depending on the land-
scape you are passing.

Yeouido Hangang Park District
Yeouido is the center of politics, media and finance.
Seouls most representative landmarks like the Capitol
and the 63 Building are right in Yeouido. Summer nights
are busy with various festivals, and spring is when the
cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Lets bike through Yeo-
uido Hangang Park, one of the most sought out parks by
Seoul natives.
Waterside Park
At the Waterside Park, you can
see the Hangang River up close.
The fountain and Floating Stage
(Mulbit Stage) presents a differ-
ent kind of respite to the people
of Seoul. In the summer, Yeouido Hangang Parks fountain
becomes a place to play and splash water.

Gwangnaru preserves the natural environment the best
out of the areas that make up the Hangang Park. It is
equipped with a bicycle racing stadium, rail bikes, and a
bike park. In addition, Gwangnaru is home to the reeds,
wetlands and migratory birds. The birds' presence may
offer a sense of seclusion from the city.

The exotic Ttukseom Hangang Park is now home to Jabe-
olle (J-Bug), an observatory shaped like a worm. 600
years ago, it was where grain ships paid for by taxpayers
for passing cruise ships. The waterfront plaza features a
docked.
50 years ago, there was a white sand beach, which meant
the area could be used for swimming and leisure. Now,
the swimming pools, bike roads, and various sports facil-
ities make it a great place for leisure.
The 8.6km bike trail bustles with cyclists even in the early
mornings.
Ttukseom Resort
Where small ships used to dock, the area is now a dock
musical fountain, a large rose park, and a nature learning
center.

Jabeolle (J-Bug)

What is Seoul Bike

Seoul Bikes is the city of Seoul's bike-sharing program. Anyone can take part in the program as long as they register

and are at least 15 year of age. Rental stations are located throughout the city, but there is a high concentration
of station in Seouls main downtown area. Bikes can be rented for 1000 per hour (with no extra charges if you

Going Around Seoul Using Seoul Bike

You can explore the nooks and crannies of Seoul by bicycle with just \1,000. The
sights that are on your list to visit are probably accessible by Seoul Bike. Over 400
stations that operate 365 days a year await you. If you are visiting Seoul, take the green
Seoul Bike bicycles and ride throughout the city!
The central Four Great Gates of Seoul date back to the
Joseon Dynasty and are rich with Koreas history and cul-
ture. The blending of modern skyscrapers with traditional
architecture will give you an experience that traverses
both the past and present.
Sungnyemun Gate Gate (Namdaemun)
As Koreas National Treasure No. 1, Namdaemun was built
in 1395 during the Joseon Dynasty as the main entrance
to the castle that surrounded Seoul. The 2nd floor pavil-
ion, the grand and sturdy gates, and the roofs eaves all
capture the essence of beauty of Joseon Dynasty archi-
tecture. Unfortunately, the gate was destroyed by a fire in
2008 and was restored over a period of five years.
Tip
Explore Namdaemun Market
At Namdaemun Market, even just
the officially registered shops total
around 10,000. Its an enormous
market where you can buy basically
anything. Even if you dont purchase
anything, you are bound to be daz-
zled by the many market alleyways
full of shops. From noodles to pork
and seafood to dumplings, the mar-
ket is also full of delicious food ven-
dors.

open from 09:00 to 20:00. Closed
on Sundays.

Seoul Museum of Art Deoksugung
Built in 1920, the Seoul Museum of Art preserves
the faade of the Supreme Court which lends it-
self to the museums antique feeling. Though its a
smaller museum, you will be able to see high quality
contemporary exhibitions. The 3rd floor, which has
an Art Shop & Cafeteria, has an amazing view. You
can also have a nice stroll in the grounds in front
of the museum.

Jeongdonggil-Cheonggyecheon -
One of the palaces of the Joseon Dynasty, the Deok-
sugung Palace is the first in Korea to be built with
a European-style fountain and garden. Daehanmun
is the entrance into the Deoksugung Palace and a
popular visiting spot for tourists. Among the build-
ings there, you can see Seokjojeon, a Western-style
building built in the early 20th century; Deoksugung
National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art;
and Jeonggwanheon, a building that blends hanok
and European styles.

Jeongdonggil
There are many buildings on Jeongdonggil that are over Tip

The World Cup Park
The ecological park was once a landfill that grew to reach 100m in height due to the vast amount of waste
and refuse. The landfill was transformed into one of Seoul's most popular parks. Its hard to imagine the area
before the World Cup Park was built, because now it is home to five themed parks, including Peace Park,
Haneul Park, Noeul Park, Nanjicheon Park. The Sangam World Cup Stadium, where you can still hear the
fans' cheers from the 2002 World Cup, is central to Saetgang, the Hangang River, and the ecological park.

The park, built around a theme of peace, is an ideal place

Popular spots include the Nanji Pond, made from the

Haneul Park
Haneul Park has the highest elevation out of all the
parks of the World Cup Park complex. Its name,
Haneul is the Korean word for "sky." Due to its
height, the park is the closest to the sky. Hop off your
bike and start hiking to the highest point of the park,
and you will be rewarded with spectacular views of
Eulalia fields. In spring and early summer, you can
see butterflies flying over the green grass. As the
highest point of World Cup Stadium, you can see
Seouls tallest attractions, like Namsan Tower and
63 Square, and the Hangang River in a single view.

During the Joseon Dynasty, Han-
yangdoseong, the Seoul City Wall,
was built over 600 years ago on the
mountain ridges of Seoul. Though
many parts of the wall were lost
throughout the centuries, 18.8 km
of the wall has been preserved and
can be seen today. The Hanyang-
doseong is a cultural heritage site
as well as a great hiking path. Walk

Sukjeongmun is Hanyangdoseong's main northern gate. The trail leads from Sukjeongmun down towards

shoes and bring supplies such as bottled water with you.

When walking along the Hanyangdoseong, you may spot stones with
letters carved on them. The engravings indicate the date of construction
as well as the names and positions of construction supervisors.

Bukhansan
Bukhansan is one of Koreas most popular hiking destinations
and it may be the most beloved of Seouls mountains. Though
a relatively small mountain at 836m, Bukhansan has winding
trails that are fun to hike through. There are so many trails that
weave along the mountain, that its possible to take a different
path and see something new each time you hike Bukhansan.
There are 7 hiking support centers near the main entrance to
Bukhansan and hikers can choose their paths based on diffi-
culty level, length, and duration.
This course goes up Bukhansans main peak, Baegundae. The
course follows a section of the city wall as well, as Hwagangam
Valley and a stone step path. The stone steps are steep, the
views from Baegundae are worth the effort.

Daeseomun
Daeseomun Gate is located at a relatively low
elevation compared to other gates along the city
wall. From the Bukhansanseong Hiking Sup-
port Center, hike past the stone valley in order
to reach Daeseomun Gate. The city wall here
is largely unchanged from the way it was 600
years ago.
Tip
Most of Bukhansans most popular hiking courses start at or near the Bukhansanseong Information Center. As
a result, a popular and low-priced hiking apparel and accessory store is located near the center as well. Its
possible to pick up hiking clothes and footwear here at below market prices. If youre looking for any hiking-re-
lated goods, stop in and browse.
Close to Bukhansans numerous hiking trails, there are many restaurants that offer good food and great views.

Hakdo Temple
Behind Hakdo Temple, there is a huge rock that has been carved

white and pinks. The flowers bloom in late spring and royal azaleas can be

that will give you a myriad of rock climbing
Rock Climbing courses to try. If you want to expand beyond
light hikes and embark on adventure-filled

Bukhansan Ridge Climbing
"Ridge" refers to the fluctuating climb along the edges of
the rocks.
Bukhansan has lots of rocky climbs, but it is recommended
that you experience the thrill of the Ridge.
The highlight of Bukhansan Mangyongdae Ridge is the piano
rock. It gets its name from how climbers have to grip the rock
like they are playing a piano.
Novice rock climbers must do a trial climb. Equipment and
courses are offered for free.

You can experience outdoor rock climbing here.
There are climbing walls starting from 3 meters up to 10
meters and they are assigned 4 different levels of difficulty.
Because the difficulty level isnt that high for level 1, you will

It is required to put on safety equipment before you climb.

can be purchased at any supermar-

can be fatty, so try to buy cuts that
are relatively lean so that fat doesnt

Walk 4 minutes.
This campground was the first ever auto campground es-
tablished within Seoul. There are 47 campsites in total
and they can accommodate more than 200 people. Efforts
were made to minimize artificial facilities so that campers
can enjoy the natural environment and the surrounding
forest fully.
Each campsite is equipped with barbeque grills, outdoor
tables, and a power supply, so its possible to enjoy camp-
ing and the great outdoors in comfort.
*Please note that tent rentals are not offered here so
campers must bring their own tents.

Special One. Seouls Leisure Festivals
Seoul Open Race
The race takes place annually in Octo-
ber at Seoul Plaza. The competition is
co-sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan
Government and the Dong-A Ilbo newspa-
per. There is a 10km course and a half
course. Applications for the race open in
June and capacity is 10,000 runners. The
participation fee is 40,000.
Seoul Bicycle Parade
The parade takes place every May and is
co-sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan
Government, the Joongang Ilbo newspa-
per, and the TV broadcaster JTBC. The pa-
rade starts at Gwanghwamun Square and
finishes at the World Cup Park. In total, the
course is 21km long. Applications open in
April and roughly 5,000 people partici-
pate. The participation fee is 10,000.
Leisure Sports Festival
The first ever Leisure Sports Festival will
take place in September and you will be
able to try out 15 different leisure sports
for free. The festival will take place in
Seoul at the Olympic Park and there will
even be a virtual reality (VR) experience
zone.
