When do we write letters?

What are ways people can communicate?

2. Prior Knowledge Required: (vocabulary and possible learner

perceptions or misconceptions)

What is Fluency? Fluency is the ability to read a text at a good pace with expression
if needed.

Who is Alma Flor Ada? Alma is a Spanish writer who writes books for children and
adults.

3. Resource for Lesson:

Book: With Love, Little Red Hen

4. Common core and MA frameworks: (Curriculum framework

addressed)

L.3. Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking,
reading, or listening.

L.4.1f. Produce completes sentences, recognizing and correcting inappropriate

fragments and run-ons.

5. Objectives/ Student Learning outcomes:

Using an anchor chart students will be able to identify the different parts of a letter.

Students will able to share their own written letters with a peer in the classroom.

Students will be able to read with good speed and without hesitation.

Instructional Sequence:
First we will see the book on the projector. I will read one letter to the classroom
with the correct speed.

After I will read the letter with the incorrect speed and do many mistakes, while
showing them the mistakes.

Third I will read it one more time with expression allowing them to hear my voice
and how it changes throughout the letter.

Then I will pass out another poem and allow them to practice it on their own silently
or with a talking tube.

Concluding the Lesson:

Students will be able to pair up with another peer and practice their reading. At this
point I would pair them up according to the different reading levels.

6. Plan to measure Student learning/Assessment:

I would allow them to write their own letters to a friend. When they are finished I
would allow them to read it to me on a one to one session and hear how fluent is
their reading and what are things they can improve on.
