Waltz op 70 no 2
The three waltzes from op 70 were composed between 1829 and 1841. This one
in A flat might not be as famous as some of Chopins other waltzes, but it is
extremely tender and inspiring. Note the dotted semitones in the left hand. Try to
adhere to them while playing the second and third beats above. As is customary,
the right hand carries the melody. We suggest you sing the melody first, without
even going near the piano. This will help greatly with phrasing. Think in long
phrases and aim to keep as legato as possible. The fingerings have been marked into
the score, but dont be afraid to change them if they dont work for your hands. We
do suggest working out solid fingerings before you begin to really learn the piece.
With good fingering, you will definitely learn quicker.
