What does the word


Self-Advocate mean?

An individuals ability to
effectively communicate,
convey, negotiate or assert
his or her own interests,
desires, needs, and rights.

In other words, getting the


help you need by asking for it.

Why is it important to Self-Advocate
at school, college, or at a job?

Advocating for yourself allows


you to get the help you need.

In school advocating for your


needs allows you to improve
your grades.

At a job advocating can help you


keep your job.
