MSC Compatibility

NOTE: For further information on upgrading module firmware, refer to DSE Publication: 057-151 DSE
Configuration Suite PC Software Installation & Operation Manual.

NOTE: For further information on editing DSE module configurations, refer to the relevant DSE
Configuration Suite PC software manual. All manuals are free to download at www.deepseaplc.com.

1 OVERVIEW
This document details MSC compatibility of DSE86xx MKI and DSE86xx MKII modules with DSE75xx and DSE55xx
modules. Information on compatibility between DSE86xx MKI and DSE86xx MKII modules is also included. The
legacy DSE550 and DSE556 modules are not compatible with either DSE86xx MKI or DSE86xx MKII modules, and
therefore are not discussed further in this document.

2 DSE86XX COMPATIBILITY
If only DSE86xx MKI and / or DSE86xx MKII modules are to be used, the MSC Compatibility option in the module
configuration must be disabled. The MSC Compatibility setting is only required when interfacing DSE86xx MKI and
DSE86xx MKII modules with DSE75xx and DSE55xx modules. For further information on enabling/disabling MSC
Compatibility, and interfacing different types of DSE modules refer to the section entitled Interfacing Different Module
Families elsewhere in this document. With this set correctly DSE86xx MKI and DSE86xx MKII module will be fully
compatible, depending on firmware version. If communication cannot be established, update all DSE86xx MKI and
DSE86xx MKII to the latest firmware version.

3 INTERFACING DIFFERENT MODULE FAMILIES

It is possible to interface DSE55xx and DSE75xx modules with DSE86xx MKI and DSE86xx MKII via an MSC
communications link, provided the following steps are followed:

o Review DSE modules to be used. DSE5510, DSE7510, DSE8610 MKI and DSE8610 MKII modules may be
interfaced together, providing all criteria in this list are met.

o If the use of DSE5560, DSE7560 or DSE8660 modules is intended, the process is more complicated:
o DSE8660 MKI and DSE8660 MKII modules will work together, depending on firmware version. Refer to the
section entitled DSE86xx Compatibility elsewhere in this document.

o DSE5560 and DSE7560 modules will not work with any DSE8660 modules.
o DSE5560 and DSE7560 modules will work together, depending on firmware version. If interfacing DSE5560 and
DSE7560 is planned contact DSE technical support for advice:

o Check firmware version of DSE5510 modules. This is done by observing the front panel during power up.
Firmware V6 or above is essential for compatibility with DSE8610 MKI and DSE8610 MKII modules. Firmware
upgrade from V5 and below is not always possible, contact technical support for further details.

o Activate Extended Functionality on DSE5510 modules and DSE7510 modules above firmware V6. This is
peformed from the Module page of the 5xxx and DSE75xx software. An example from the DSE75xx software is
displayed below:

o Ensure the latest firmware version is installed to all DSE86xx MKI and DSE86xx MKII modules. Different versions
may not be compatible with each other, leading to MSC Old Version Unit alarms. The firmware version is checked
under the About section on the front panel, or via DSE Configuration Suite, as illustrated below:

When using the

DSE Configuration
Suite PC software,
navigate to the
status page in the
SCADA section to
view the module
firmware version.

o Enable MSC Compatibility on all DSE86xx MKI and DSE86xx MKII modules. Similarly to the above, this is
completed using either the DSE Configuration Suite PC software, or via the front panel editor:

DSE8660 MKI / DSE8660 MKII DSE8610 MKI / DSE8610 MKII
