Setting (include all settings): Middle Earth- The area that the story takes place. Rohan- The city where
the fellowship seeks help for the coming battle for Middle Earth. Isengard- The fortress of the evil
wizard Saruman who seeks the ring for himself.
Brief synopsis (3 - 4 sentence plot capsule): The fellowship continues their journey to destroy the ring
in their own ways even though they are very broken apart and separated. They destroy isengard to
help the rear side so that they only have to fight on one front and not be opposed on both sides or else
they would surely lose. They also deal a major blow to Sauron and seek to destroy his armies and
distract him long enough for Frodo to get the ring destroyed.
Conflict (Identify if it is man v man, man v self, man v nature, man v society and explain. You will
probably have more than one type of conflict): Man v Man- The people of middle earth vs Sauron and
his army. Man v self- Gandalf had to find himself again to become Gandalf the White and reinvent
himself. Man vs Society- The hobbits had to convince the ents to help the people of Middle Earth and
they were unaccustomed to the way the ents worked.
Resolution: Frodo and Sam are in the dark land of Mordor and they must now make it through in
order to destroy the ring in mount doom, the only place where it can be gotten rid of.
Theme(s) (What was revealed to the protagonist? What did the protagonist learn?):
Never give up, even when everything seems hopeless there is still a chance if you just hold on that you can
make it through. Like the people at the siege of Helm's deep who were doomed until Gandalf and his army
came to help them
Top Five (5) vocabulary words and definitions from your novel (remember if you have none, your
book is too easy):
Top three (3) quotes with page # and why you selected it:
1.) There is some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for. (pg 453) I selected this because it
shows that there is still hope and that they will fight
2.) It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were.
And sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go
back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, its only a passing thing this shadow. Even
darkness must pass. (Pg 309) I picked this because it shows how Sam can keep positive even in the darkness.
3.) In one thing you have not changed, dear friend," said Aragorn: "you still speak in riddles." (525) This s when
Aragorn and the others meet up with Gandalf again and it is a happy occasion.
