Topic : Buildings with Unconventional Structural Solutions

Synopsis : Majority of the buildings being constructed around us adopt conventional structural
systems like masonry load bearing system, regular concrete frame system, regular steel frame
system or steel truss system etc. Many a times some buildings demand unconventional structural
solution based on architectural, structural or site specific requirements. And when such structural
solution is conceived, it becomes the unique system for that particular building only and imparts a
distinct character to the building.

This lecture shall discuss case study of few such buildings in which unconventional structural
system was conceived and executed, while explaining evolution process of the system in context of
requirements that led to conception of the unconventional system.
