An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is necessary for
providing a no-break three-phase supply to specific
equipment during blackouts, covering the period from the loss
of normal supply to the start-up and subsequent electrical
power generation of the emergency generator. Without a
UPS, even very short power breaks may cause disruption in
hospital operations.

REQUIREMENTS
4.4 The battery capacity shall be at least one (1) hour1 full
load capacity with an electronic and/or manual bypass
switch and maintenance bypass switch (internal and
external). The UPS should be connected to the essential
services supply. The full load discharge capacity has to
be specified along with the battery calculation.
Note:
4.5 Batteries for the UPS system shall comply with the latest
standards set by the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) and the Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
4.6 All cells in the same bank shall be of the same size and
type.

5.7 All spare parts shall be new and genuine, sourced from
equipment manufacturers or Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEM) equivalents approved by the
government.
