What I notice
Review workbook pages
completed from a previous day.
Becomes interactive by using
online maps and the smartboard.
The class stays with one topic for
every week or two weeks
depending on time.
Students read aloud and answer
questions.
The topic is only taught once and
it is reviewed for the rest of the
week.
Social Studies gets skipped quite
often if there isnt enough time in
the day.
There is a rotating schedule of
having science for 4 weeks and
Social Studies for 4 weeks.

How can I help students love
social studies when I am so
constrained on time?
Students find Social Studies fun
because it is a class they dont
have very often.
I liked that my cooperating
teacher integrated technology
into her lesson and encouraged
me to do so too.
I think all subjects are equally
important and nothing should be
cut out because it isnt on
standardized tests.
Since class time is so short it is
hard to make it very interactive.
My cooperating teacher told me
that most Social Studies is taught
by integrating it into reading
lessons. This made me very
happy to hear that students are
being exposed to Social Studies
indirectly.
During planning period teachers
were scrambling to come up with
Social Studies grades for the end
of the quarter. Most of the focus
is placed on it when grades are
due.
