Conventional Casting
For manufacturing of insulating components, like power transformers, in the middle and
high voltage, casting under vacuum is advantageous. The prepared casting resin
compound is charged under vacuum into a mould heated to 60 - 100 C. The filling
pressure must be about 5 - 10 mbar above the level of vacuum used for resin
preparation (1 - 5 mbar) to prevent formation of gas bubbles due to the vapour pressure
of the components. The casting is then gelled and cured at standard pressure in an
appropriate oven.
Impregnation of glass fibres
For manufacturing of insulating components, like power transformers, in the middle and
high voltage, impregnation under vacuum is important. The prepared coil should be
dried at 80 - 100 C for 8 - 10 hours at 0.2 to 1 m bar.
The filling speed should be 1 - 5 l per minute. It is advisable to fill
the mould from the bottom. The casting is then gelled and cured at standard pressure in
an appropriate oven.

This also applies to the processing of the normal commercial epoxy resin and their
hardeners and accelerators.
For information about safe handling of EPIKOTE epoxy resins and EPIKURE Curing
Agents, please note the corresponding Safety Data Sheet.
