Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL)

In pursuance of power sector reforms undertaken by the Government of Uttar Pradesh (GOUP), the Uttar Pradesh
State Electricity Board (UPSEB) was unbundled under the first reforms transfer scheme dated 14th January 2000,
into three separate legal entities:

a) Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) UPRVNL was formed in1980. UPRVUNL is
state owned thermal power generating company with present generating capacity of 5938 MW, operating 5 Thermal
Power Stations within Uttar Pradesh. The power stations are Anpara thermal Power Plant Station, Obra Thermal
Power Station, Panki Thermal Power Station, Parichha Thermal Power Station and Harduaganj Thermal Power
Station

b) Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) The function of UPPCL is Transmission and Distribution of
power within the State. Nder UPPCL, four distribution companies (DISCOMS) were created in July 2003 -

Bahraich, Shrawasti, Balrampur, Gonda,
Barabanki, Rae Bareli, Faizabad, These
Sultanpur, Ambedkarnagar and Lucknow

4. Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Agra, Mathura, Mainpuri, Aligarh,


Nigam Limited, Agra Hathras, Etawah, Etah, Farukhabad,
Firozabad, Kanpur, Kanpur Dehat,
Banda, Jhansi, Urai, Kannauj, Oraiya,
Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Lalitpur,
Chitrakut, Kashiram Nagar

corporations are involved in activities viz. providing quality power supply to consumers, timely sanction of power
loads, maintenance of network, solving problems of consumers satisfactorily etc. The main objective of these
corporations is to electrify new areas and to provide power supply to the entire region of its jurisdiction.
c) Uttar Pradesh Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UPJVNL) vested with the function of Hydro Generation within the
State.

d) Further through another Transfer Scheme dated 15th January, 2000, the assets, liabilities and personnel of Kanpur
Electricity Supply Authority (KESA) under UPSEB were transferred to Kanpur Electricity Supply Company
(KESCO), a company registered under the Companies Act, 1956.
