The behavior typically results in teacher attention to the point the
teacher is completing his work for him.

By having the teacher ignore any questions for 2 minutes or until it

is time to sign off on the bell work it will allow of Bob to get the
adult attention he is seeking but for an appropriate reason.

3 Design a teaching plan. Expected Behavior- Teacher will give Eagle Bucks to Bob when he is on
The expected behavior includes: task and completing his own work.
Conditions Conditions: Teachers must ignore inappropriate behaviors and not
Behaviors sit alongside him.
Behavior: Teachers will support Bob when he needs help not when
he is trying to avoid the assignment.
Teaching Examples- Teacher will give positive praise and Eagle Bucks
(school wide reward system) when Bob is on task. Teacher will also stick
to what she says for discipline.
Non-examples should: Non-examples- Having the teacher sit next to Bob and essentially doing

the behavior Teacher will not give attention to Bob when he is being loud to try
Be realistic and get adult attention.
When Bob puts his head down teacher will not sit next to him and
keep reminding him to stay focused.
Teaching examples should: Teaching strategies-
Describe when to use the Token System: The school uses a token system with Eagle Bucks
behavior and the students can buy thing s with them. With Eagle Bucks
Be realistic students can go to sports game, get free dress day, and buy snacks
from the school store. This system works great at the school. The
teachers must know when it is acceptable to had them out so they
do not lose the specialness of them. Bobs teachers should make
it clear on how students can get Eagle Bucks so the students know
what type of behavior is acceptable.
Activity Reinforcement: As a teacher if Bob was on task 80% of
the class period he can be on his phone for the last 3-minutes of
class and the next day he can listen to music during bell work. This
will make him motivated to stay on task.
Lupo 3

Good teachers need to follow through with what they are going to
do. By being consistent Bob will learn what is acceptable and what
is not.
4 Arrange the environment to Problem situations-
facilitate success Physical environment: Problems arise in classroom with the class
Consider changes to: setting arrangement. The teacher lectures at the front of the class
Physical environment and hardly walks around. This makes it hard for the students to get
Classroom procedures the support if they have questions and it is also hard for the teacher
Task requirements to give non-verbal prompts the students to stay focused. For this
Teacher-student interactions big of a classroom it is important for teachers to walk around the
class so they monitor the students behaviors. Another problem are
the desks. The students share a tables with 3-4 other classmates.
This is a huge distraction for Bob because he is easily distracted by
others. As a teacher I would have assigned seats so I am able to
monitor who they will be sitting with. For Bob I would suggest to
pair him with a female classmate that stays on task and is a little
bossy. This will naturally make him stay on task because his
partner will help redirect him.
Classroom procedures: As a teacher they need to have a supportive
classroom environment. For Bob having a system in place will
help him learn what is acceptable. I would also suggest to follow
through with whatever punishment is in place of the behavior. For
example, If the student pulls out their phone and you (the teacher)
say put it away or I will call the office and then the student pulls it
out again and you say the same thing. Nothing is being done about
the behavior. In fact, the student is learning that you will not
actually follow through with what you say you will do.
Task requirements: The teacher and students need to come up with
an agreement on what is appropriate and what is not appropriate
behaviors for the classroom. I would also recommend to come up
with punishments to not appropriate behaviors. By having it clear
and direct the students will know exactly what is expected in this
class.

Teacher-student interactions: Teachers need to to know their

students. This will help with monitoring the class. When a teacher
cares about their students the students can feel it. For Bob I would
suggest to let him know you care about him and his future. By
making a point to ask how he is doing before class starts Bob will
know he is cared for in this class so he doesnt have to worry about
being isolated he can just work though his work like his peers.
Facilitate success- Facilitating success for the Bob is very important and
for the teacher to be consistent. The teacher needs to told up to her/his
agreements and ignore inappropriate behaviors and praise/ give Eagle
Buck when Bob is on task. If the teacher is direct and consistent the
behavior problems will decrees and might disappear .
5 Develop consequences for Natural positive consequences- If teaching is direct and consistent
desired and undesired behavior. naturally the behaviors will decrease. This will allow for the student to
actually work and learn thus, improving his grade. Also, by pairing Bob
up with a bossy classmate she will keep him on task because she isnt
going to want him to be talking the entire period.
(Artificial consequences should be Withhold access to natural positive consequences- N/AI would not
used only when natural withhold teacher access to student.
consequences are not sufficient!)
Prompts- The teachers prompt to keep Bob on task can be you are doing
great keep it up! or it could be as simple as a smile in his direction. It is
important not to give attention to his negative behavior because then you
are feeding into the behavior. However, when he is acting out it could be a
good time for a whole class review of the class rules so Bob is not being
singled out.
If the replacement behavior Artificial positive consequences- Teacher could give him Eagle Bucks or
is not exhibited despite praise when he is doing anything that is acceptable. If student doesnt
natural positive wish to have Eagle Bucks then the teacher and student can discuss a
consequences and prompts different reward.
If the problem behavior Negative consequences- Bob will not be given 3 minutes of free time on

behavior is necessary for independently for the first 2 minutes then if he has a

complete around to sign off on bell work.
o The teacher will support Bob when he needs help and will
reframe from sitting next to him longer then 5 minutes.
Criteria: The teachers will use praise and Eagle Bucks when Bobs
behavior is acceptable. This will be a learning process for the
teacher and Bob because they are both breaking old bad habits. I
suspect this will take the rest of the year to learn the new desired
behaviors for each party.
