The lesson taught was the Washing Machine Yoga. I explained movements to the students until they were able to do them on their own. I
introduced the topic asking the students if they knew how a washing machine and dryer moved. They gave examples that were similar to the
movement of the video. Before introducing the activity, I had the students stand up and stretch their arms to make room for their movements. This
was so that each student had their own personal space to move around without injuring their peers. I demonstrated the movements from the video,
and had the students repeat them back. I then introduced the Washing Machine Song by Cosmic Kids. Together we went through the video once
learning the moves and the music together. Once we learned the movements and the song, we played the video again. When the video was over,
together we reviewed what we had just learned and how our bodies moved to the video. The students seemed to really enjoy and were engaged in the
activity.
The lesson, for the most part went as I had planned it would. There were technical difficulties with the computer at first, but while the
computer was restarting, the students practiced the yoga poses they were taught previously. Once the video was up, I believe I introduced the activity
well enough were the students understood what was going to happen. The children responded well to the activity. Almost all of the class was engaged
and excited about the video and the movements. At different points during the lesson, some students lost interest and danced to themselves in the
back of the carpet or stood and watched, however those students that were not engaged, were actively participating at some point during the lesson.
If I were to teach the lesson again, I would have asked how advanced the students were with yoga. The students enjoyed yoga so much and
had a greater prior knowledge that I was aware of. If I had known this I would have given the students a more challenging, multistep video to follow
along with. There are other videos from Cosmic Kids that are more for breathing yoga, than dancing yoga. Therefore, for future lessons I would
choose a more challenging video for the students to enjoy and practice their breathing and body movements.
While implementing this lesson plan, I learned always to have a backup plan in case of computer problems. I also learned that it is always
good to have extra videos for if the students pick up on the original video and become bored. Bringing a more challenging video could be helpful
after the original to see how far the students can be challenged. Overall, I believe the lesson activity went well and the students seemed to really
enjoy it.
