2. Communicating to a Controller

To communicate to a controller then an XW585 cable requires to be

connected between the B-Port (9 Pin connector) on the controller and
the Com Port of the PC. (Some PCs do not have Com Ports anymore
therefore a USB to Com port converter cable will be required from a
third party source).

When XL-Online is started with the XW585 cable connected then

communication between the PC and the controller will try to be
established. It will be obvious that communication is established as an
emulation of the controller MMI will appear in Green on the screen.

If communication is not automatically established then probably the

default Com Port setting of XL-Online is wrong or the baud rate is
wrong. You will need identify the Com Port number that the XW585
cable is connected to on the PC (the USB to Com port adjuster will also
be assigned a Com Port Number. This can be found in Control Panel >
System > Hardware (tab) > Device manager (button).

Once the Com Port number is identified then in XL-Online from the
main menu select File > Connection and the Connect properties box
will appear. From here select the correct Com Port and make sure the
Baudrate is assigned as Auto detect

Press the Connect button and communication should now be

established.

program either press on the MMI the Down and Minus buttons for 5
seconds or press the restart button on the controller.
