CNBC. Legalization Will Reduce Crime, Free Up Police Resources. 20 April 2010.

Web. Accessed on 3 March 2017.

The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) is the oldest broadcasting station in

the United States which founded the Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC) in

1989. CNBC is a worldwide financial news program that provides real-time stock

coverage and news analysis of worldwide business. CNBC is a reputable broadcasting

station that has covered stories all across the world and broadcasts in several different

languages.

CNBC states that since marijuana is federally illegal in the United States it has

directly linked to major drug related crimes (murders, smuggling of drugs into the United

States, and disease.) and the author states by legalizing marijuana just like we did with

alcohol it will significantly reduce drug related crimes. By legalizing marijuana, it could

also create an estimated $1.3 billion in new revenue nationwide as an excellent tax

benefit for the country. In addition, legalizing marijuana will free up police officers time

so they can focus on more important social problems of America: sexual assaults,

burglaries, child abuse, school shootings, and drunk driving.

The author speaks with sincere intent to legalize marijuana based on current facts

and his related experiences. My team and I will use this source of information to further

explain why legalizing marijuana will have such a positive impact on the United States

and its citizens. This article is an excellent and different view point explaining one of

many areas that will contribute to the overall success of marijuana legalization.

Graham, Jennifer, Into the weed: What a Utah can expect if medical marijuana is legalized

Deseret News. 28 January 2017. Web. Accessed on 3 March 2017.

Jennifer Graham is a writer and editor for Deseret News and covers in health and

wellness. In this article, she currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts. In Into the weed:

What a Utah can expect if medical marijuana is legalized published by Deseret News,

Graham considers the pros and cons on medical marijuana.

Since more states have been legalizing marijuana for medical use it brought

attention to Utah lawmakers. Utah legislator arent considering on legalizing marijuana

any time soon, but they are pushing a bill to do research on medical marijuana with

approval from Food Drug and Administration (FDA) and Drug Enforcement

Administration (DEA). Proponents around the United States have shared their story on

how marijuana have treated their chronic illness, to provide evidence that marijuana is

effective than prescriptions. While in Colorado, marijuana is used for recreationally and

there are statistics with adolescents abusing marijuana for recreational use rather than

medical uses. Basically, there has to be a lot of research before Utah would legalize

marijuana for medical use, but that wouldnt be for a while. This article was detailed,

long, interesting, and organized. It provided much information that would be helpful.

Grant Igor, J. Hampton Atkinson, Ben Gouaux and Barth Wilsey. Medical Marijuana: Clearing

Away the Smoke. The Open Neurology Journal. 4 May 2012. Web. Accessed on

25 February 2017.

Grant Igor, J. Hampton Atkinson, Ben Gouaux and Barth Wilsey are medical

doctors who conduct specialized studies of psychiatry at the University of California and

the University of Pittsburgh. This article was published by the trusted Open Neurology

Journal and peer reviewed by college students all across the world.

Grant et al. concluded after several research studies that medicinal marijuana has

been proven to have positive effects to cure and treat many diseases (Alzheimers,

glaucoma, AIDS, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and cancer to name a few). Regardless of

the two main active ingredients, Tetrahydrocannabinal (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD),

have been proven to be a better medicine than others currently on the market, both

substances are federally illegal and both are a schedule 1 narcotic. However, with further

studies of medical marijuanas health benefits hopefully soon we will see it legalized in

all fifty states.

Grant et al. provided a very thorough and over the top scientific summary of their

results, as this article is intended for college level students and above. This article had a

lot of valuable information, although, it was categorized and neatly executed. The

research study and their conclusion were clearly presented with the reader in mind.

This article contributed an abundance of research, the bodys chemical reactions

and legalities covering the majority, if not the whole of the topic. My group and I will use

this credible source of information to provide the reader with proven facts of medical

marijuanas health benefits. We will explain the health benefits of marijuana to state our

position why medical marijuana should be legal in the state of Utah.

marijuana would facilitate further research

The material this article contains can help the groups research by illuminating

counterarguments, and how medical marijuana is a premature substance for medical use.

With this information, we can discuss that further research of marijuana is needed.

The text in the article has different opinions of representatives who agree and

disagree why SB 73 should be legalized. Mckitrick quotes what supporters and non-

supporters (mostly politicians) have to say about SB 73. The title clearly tells the answer

of which bill got declined. This article was helpful for understanding which bill does

what, and why medical marijuana has not been passed yet.
