Emotiones

Project Overview:
Participants will draw a card with an emotion on it, and work together to show
that emotion through music. We will have two instruments made of Makey-Makey
softwares on a table, and observers will try to guess the emotion being played!
Groups will prepare together by discussing and deciding how they will play their
emotion, who will play what, and practicing their products. We want to interject as little
as possible to allow for organic group learning. We will of course walk around and give
hints if a group is stuck. We will assist individuals if they are struggling with a certain
skill or task. In other words, we will casually facilitate and assess.
This experience is a great opportunity for creativity through the process of music
making. This game prompts individuals to use their different skills and perspectives
and their imagination to engage in creative problem-solving. In S. Watsons article,
Thoughts on Creativity (2011), the word creativity is defined as The use of the
imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work. (p. 20)

Technologies Used:
Makey-Makeys
o The two teams will have their own makey-makey set up to participate. The
makey-makey will be able to play different sounds (instruments/voice) in
the key of C.
3-D printing
o This will be used as the medium for the makey-makeys to go through
o This will be the handheld game that participants will use. It will be the
medium between the makey-makeys and the actual participants.
Index Cards
o These will have the different levels of songs written on them for the
students.
o The songs will be separated into different levels (easy, medium, hard).
This will help to mold the game to suiting individual participant knowledge.
Computer
o This will be used to plug into the makey-makeys in order to provide the
correct sounds for coding.
o This will be used as the main source of coding for the makey-makey
design.
DAW(Digital Audio Workstation)
o This was used to record the sounds that are played through the computer
when participants are playing the instrument attached to the Makey Makey
Learning Goals:
Participants will develop their understanding of different tonal qualities by
demonstrating differing moods through music.
Participants will communicate a selected mood or emotion through music through
the rhythms and pitches they choose, as well as the style in which they play them
(the different volumes, tempos, articulations).
Participants will develop collaborative social skills by working together in groups
to accomplish their shared goal.
