Course The course adheres to the objectives set forth in the Course Does this clearly identify the
Description Description for AP Environmental Science, which says it is broad goals or topics to be
designed to be the equivalent of a one-semester, introductory covered? Does it outline the
college course in environmental science that includes a laboratory general topics, concepts and

scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to
understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify
and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-
made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these
problems, and to examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or
preventing them.

All students who are enrolled in AP Environmental Science are

required to maintain organized laboratory data, conduct laboratory
work according to safety rules, and submit lab reflections as
assigned. They are expected to complete the assigned readings
(approximately a chapter a week plus supplemental readings and
case studies) with periodic quizzes on topics.. Each quarter there is
a benchmark test and constructed response questions modeled
after the AP exam questions. These benchmarks are required but
the AP exam is optional. As the AP exam gets closer, each student
will evaluate their knowledge and readiness and take a practice
test to help determine if they want to take the AP test. It is one of
the hardest AP tests simply because of the broad nature of the
course.

By the very nature of the topics and their relevance to current

events, this course appeals to a wide diversity of students who
have interests in the environment and nature, science, engineering,
social sciences, law, economics, computers, literature, and drama.
This diversity lends itself to lively discussions and interesting
presentations of scientific topics, concepts, and data. The
implication of empowering a diversity of students with scientific

Frequently you will be required to create original material and
evaluate the work of your peers. Collect as many points as you can,
extra points will be bonus points. Once we finish a unit and the
make-up window is over, those points are gone; however, you can
earn bonus points in the next unit and they will all average
