WEBSITE AND CLASSROOM BLOG CREATION TOOLS

Name: Kaylee Wagner

Directions: Using the template below, describe how students could use a blog, wiki, or other website-
creation tool to learn required learning standards in your content area: For an A grade provide an idea that
reaches a Level of Technology Implementation of 4 or above. Remember higher levels (4-6) require that
students assume adult/professional roles; engage in higher-order thinking; and use technology
create/publish original content for their classmates and/or others beyond their school/classroom. The
learning activities and products should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will
view/use/benefit from students work. Review your handouts on Engaged Learning, Authenticity, and LoTi.

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: MGSEK.G.1 Describe objects in the environment
using names of shapes, and describe the relative positions of these objects using terms such as above,
below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to. MGSEK.G.2 Correctly name shapes regardless of their
orientations or overall size.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: This project will begin on Friday, while the teacher tells the
students that they need to check the blog that weekend. On the blog there will be a video giving the students
background information on shapes and the different kinds there are. The students will listen to the podcast
that will give them directions to look around everywhere they go looking for shapes. They will bring
pictures and notes to class on Monday to share with the class of their findings.

Students in this activity will have an opportunity to explore the different shapes that surround them.
Through exploring the standard, the students will be able to create a web page online that highlights the
different shapes and where they can find them. The students will be able to each put in a picture with the
name of the shape that they found inserting it to the classroom blog page allowing the students to reference
it when needed.

Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi):

This lesson would be a LoTi level 5 because the students are working to find the answers on their own
coming together to make a web page of their findings to complete the finished project. This project will be
done inside and outside of the classing upping the LoTi level since some of it is done on their own time.

Importance of technology: Why is using a website-creation tool critical to the project? Could the project
be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of
technology, if any, are going to be used in the learning experience?

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: One of the issues that may arise is that they are making a web page
about shapes is that the students will be able to log into the web page adding some risk to their safety since
it might direct them somewhere else. A password protected page on our blog that the website will be posted
on would be ideal in this situation only giving the students and the parents access to the website with a
direct link eliminating the safety factor. The second possible issue that some of the students might take
pictures with their shapes allowing their face to not be seen on the internet. The teacher can either block out

the students face, or have the parents consent to the picture, also putting the page on password protection
to protect the students identity.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

This lesson would be pushing the students to really look for shapes out in the real world recording what
they see. It would allow the students to try something new and really take charge of their learning inside
and outside of the classroom. This is a lot of responsibility to put on the students and the parents, but it is
a great way to get the parents involved with their childrens learning. I would hope that through this lesson
students would learn more than they would in the classroom and have more of a beneficial impact on their
learning.
