Variables a and b represent the legs of the triangle.

Variable c represents the hypotenuse of the triangle.

Find the Ladders Length - Amber decides to open up a tree trimming

company. One day, Amber gets a phone call that a cat is stuck on the top of

Joes tree that is 8 feet tall! Amber will stand exactly 6 feet from the tree, but

in order to find out the size of the ladder she will need to get the cat, she

needs your help! Use pythagorean theorem to find the length of the ladder

that is needed.

a2 + b2 = c2

______2 + ______2 = c2

______ = c2
______ = c2

______ = c

The ladders length is _________ feet!

Find the Distance - Ben decides to a pull prank on the class. He wants to

attach string to the walls of the classroom and create an obstacle course for

students to go through. Ben decides to attach a piece of string to bottom

corner of the room and attach the end to the opposite corner of the ceiling.

Ben needs your help determining how much string he needs for this! Use

pythagorean theorem to determine the length of the string Ben should cut in

order to go from the bottom corner of the room to the opposite corner of the

ceiling. *Hint: The rooms height, length, and width are given in the

diagram.
