In this EBSOhost eBook, it explained how influential media can be to the children and the youth
of this generation. It has become more and more visible how much the media has affected people
by the way they act, think, and talk. Peoples opinions are beginning be swayed by the medias
persuasive messages displayed on the screens. With the help of the sponsorship of Henry J.
Kaiser Family Foundation they held a in 2006 under the National Research Council and the
Institute of Medicine. They conducted an experiment that studied childrens health and
development after being affect from social media. The study proved that there was a significant
change in the development of the children. This proved that any kind of media does have a
negative effect on people.

This Gale Virtual Reference was very useful in providing information about the influence of
media. This subject has been catching a lot peoples attention lately such as; teachers, parents,
and professionals who work in the health care department. In this particular reference, it explains
that the media has been made more available to the public in the United States, which allows
children to get influenced by it as well. It is states that not all social media exposure to people are
negative. Media has allowed people to discover new arts in performances and music. Social
media has also given the public a chance to have access to educational material. Also, people are
now able to discuss social issues with others online. However, it has provided information about
the harmful effects that come from abusing social media. Some people tend to develop a violent
behavior, or even low self-esteem about ones body image. Children are being exposed to the
explicit sexual content at an early age. The American Academy of Pediatrics even stated
Children are influenced by media they learn by observing, imitating, and making behaviors
their own (2001, pg. 1224). This just proves that even though there are positive effects from
social media, there will always be a bad side of it as well.
Felson, Richard B. Mass Media Effects on Violent Behavior. Annual Review of Sociology, vol.
22, 1996, pp. 103128. www.jstor.org/stable/2083426.

In this particular article, it discusses the issues of violent behavior that is caused by social media.
It explains how the aggressive behavior is usually caused by exposure to violent pornography,
video games, and television programs. It talks about the consistent the pattern that is seen
throughout the children who have seen violent programs through the media and social media.
This article provided me with information about the background of where the violent behavior
comes from.

In this peer review journal, it reveals the truth about social media that many do not know about.
It talks about how social media is very similar to an addictive drug, but there are millions
addicted to this narcotic and do not know it. However, instead of injecting themselves with drug
they are getting high off of YouTube videos or overdosing on Facebook feeds. The journal states
that in 2011, Nielsen found that more than 22.5% of our time is actually being spent being
online. In that same year, there was a Moeller study that did not allow 1,000 college students
from 10 different countries to have no contact with social media only for 24 hours. The outcome
of this experimentation left many shocked because it showed that social media showed the same
symptoms of a drug and/or alcohol addiction. The students were reported to be filled with fear,
anxiety, coldness, feelings of being isolated and even being on a diet. The information that was
held in this article displayed important factors of social media being socially destructive.

This book covered the basics of what is social media and explained thoroughly the history of it
and how it has changed the world. It includes examples of which popular social media app are
being used currently such as, Facebook and Twitter. The books into details about how Twitter
functions and what it is specifically made for. It continues describing the many different
platforms of apps that have been seen and used over the years. This book is very resourceful due
to the fact that it talks about how social media functions and the consequences that come along
with the apps when something wrong is put online. It allows people to see that not all negative
effects are physical or mentally, there are effects caused just by saying the wrong thing on a
public network.

In this Google Scholar book, it is providing information about what are the primary effects from
the media we are constantly surrounded by. It talks about the effects in a new perspective, saying
how media has effected political campaigns, service announcements, peoples behavior and
views. The book shows you that you are not only damaging yourself by being influenced by
media but you are unknowingly harming others as well. It allows you to open your eyes and see
how media has a large amount of influence on everything you see whether it is how you act or
who you vote for. The books backs up that social media and the media itself has caused many
negative effects in everyones lives.

This Gale Virtual Reference discusses the media influence and how it immediately started almost
as soon as media was formed. It states that people of who are adults and of college-age have
been already influenced by the media whether or not they know about. However, it continues to
how people are now being exposed at an early age to inappropriate and violent media. It is said
that the social roles of these children are now being swayed to think a certain way about a
specific topic. This is not allowing the children to develop a mind of their own, instead they are
just becoming mindless zombies enslaved by the influence of social media. This Reference has
provided information that about the ages and the effects the children are getting damaged by
social media/media.

This academic journal has described how digital technology has impacted the way we live our
everyday lives. It has provided enough information for people to be able to understand that every
choice we make, every word that makes out of our mouths or the thoughts we are currently
processing; all have been somehow influenced by social media. It is stated in this journal that
modern technology has allowed to connect with people all across the globe but at the same time
it has made people anti-social. Social media has given a chance to express how we feel to many
others but it has also allowed bullies to find a new way to express how they feel to their victims.
People are now able to discover amazing new facts every day and be exposed to inappropriate
pornography. With every pro there will be a con and in this journal it has proven that social
media might look appealing but there are off-putting things awaiting too.

This Gale Virtual Reference contains the definition of the internet and talks about how modern
technology has changed drastically since the 1980s. Back in the day, there was no such thing as
Instagram or Facebook. In this reference, it is said that the only way to communicate with
another individual was to use the phone or mail. However, ever since the internet came people
have discovered many ways to contact another person. The internet is described as a global
assemblage consisting of over 19 million computers in rapid interconnection in this article. This
was very resourceful because it provided a background of where social media came from and
how it has changed over the years.
