PLANNING
List the Common Core/State Standard(s) to be addressed in this lesson:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.2.5
Create audio recordings of stories or poems; add drawings or other visual
displays to stories or recounts of experiences when appropriate to clarify
ideas, thoughts, and feelings.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.2.7
Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., read a number of
books on a single topic to produce a report; record science observations).
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.2.6
With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to
produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers.
List the Learning Objective(s) to be addressed in this lesson. Use the
following format: Students will be able to

Students will be able to create a story, using Story Jumper, from the
information theyve gathered during their research on a president.
Describe how the objective is relevant to students lives.

The objective is relevant to the students life because its important to be

able to gather information that can be used to visually represent a topic. As
the students get older and become more educated, it will be important for
them to know how to successfully use this concept and understand the
importance of researching past topics.

List the words relevant to the content area that you will either introduce
and/or review during your lesson.

ASSESSMENT
Pre-Assessment: Describe the instrument or process you will use to
measure students level of understanding toward the learning objective(s)
prior to teaching the lesson.

During the pre-assessment, I will give the students 5 questions that

gathers their knowledge on presidents.
1. What is a President?
2. Who was the United States first President?
3. What is a Vice President?
4. Who are the 4 faces on Mount Rushmore?
5. What are 2 of the Presidents roles?
APPENDIX: Include a blank copy of the lesson pre-assessment. (if
applicable)

Is your pre-assessment included at the end of this lesson plan?

Describe the timeline as to when you plan to administer the pre-

assessment?
(Recommended timeline is a minimum of two days prior to teaching your
lesson).

I will give the students the pre-assessment before they start the unit on
Presidents. This will introduce them to what they are going to be
researching.

Create and insert a table/chart/graph that shows the pre-assessment data

results. (if applicable)
Insert an image of your table/chart/graph here.
Describe how the results of the pre-assessment (what the students have
demonstrated they know) will be used to design the lesson objectives,
instruction, and post-assessment.

Since the teacher is new to the students, I will have them introduce
themselves and tell me who their president is. I will also ask what their
favorite thing about the president theyve been researching is.

Post-Assessment: APPENDIX: Include a blank copy of the lesson post-assessment

you will use to measure students level of understanding toward the learning objectives after
teaching the lesson.

Is your post-assessment included at the end of this lesson plan?

APPENDIX: Include a copy of a Key/Product (completed by you, the teacher) which

provides a model of the desired outcome.

Is your key included at the end of this lesson plan?

TECHNOLOGY
Describe the instructional and/or assistive technology that you plan to
incorporate into the lesson to enhance instruction and student learning.

I will use a laptop to show the students how to log in to their accounts and
how to use Story Jumper. This will make the project easier for them to
understand and make in more understanding when they are doing it on
their own. I will also use the SMART Board to pull up the home screen of
Story Jumper so that the students have a visual to look at when they are
logging into their accounts.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Describe the accommodations/differentiation/modifications you will use to
meet the needs of all learners and accommodate differences in students
learning, culture, language, etc. * Be sure that these accommodations are
based on what you identified/described in your contextual information
(Task I).

The teacher will have prior knowledge to any IEPs for individuals that
they might have in the class. For this assignment, enlarging the text on the
lap top screen or having a different way of taking notes so that the
students can comprehend the material that they are reading might be an
accommodation that needs to be mades. Some students may also need to
be paired up with other students in order for them to be successful with
this project. This might include having students volunteer or picking
students who set good examples and would be a good partner for a certain
student.

MANAGEMENT
Identify the management and motivational strategies you will use to meet student
behavioral/developmental needs in order to keep students on task and actively engaged
throughout the lesson.

I will manage the class by being actively engaged with the students when
they are working independently. This will include walking around the
classroom, redirecting inappropriate behavior and answering any questions
that students might have. If I have to redirect the whole class I will go over
the directions and my expectations from them when they are working
independently. I will also use call back ques to gain their full attention. To
manage how the students log in to their accounts, I will give them a note
card with a username and a password so that they dont have to remember
it on their own. The students will manage the notes that theyve taken in
envelopes that are labeled.

LESSON IMPLEMENTATION
I Do
(Teacher introduces lesson and models expected outcome of
learning objectives)
Describe how you will activate student interest and present the learning
objective in an engaging way (this is your lesson opening).
I will create my own presentation on Story Jumper to gain the students
interest for this learning objective. By showing them what I have made, it
will give them an example of what they should be making and a guideline
to follow. I will also show them past stories that have been made on Story
Jumper to show them how creative other students have been in the past.

Describe how you will communicate (to students) how the objective is
relevant to their lives.
I will inform the students that this is relevant to their lives by explaining to
them that they need to know how to properly use websites that will help
them create student centered presentations. I will also inform them that it
is important to know how to navigate through unfamiliar places, such as
Story Jumper, by using previous knowledge that they have on other
technical tools. Most students will know how to use a computer, so its
important for them to know that a computer can be used for educational
purposes, such as representing a president that theyve researched.

Describe what instructional strategies you will use to

model/explain/demonstrate the knowledge and skills required of the
objective. (cite theories/theorists)
Before navigating them to Story Jumper, I will show them a few basic
computer skills.
I will show them how highlight a text to change either the font or the
color of a text, how to bring back texts that was accidentally erased
by holding down Ctrl+Z, and I will answer any questions about the
computer that they have.
I am going to introduce them to Story Jumper and navigate them to
the site.
I will show them how to log in and have the students follow the steps
that are provide on the note card to get to the right screen.
Once they are logged in, Ill show them a sample story so they get an
idea of what their story will look like at the end.
I will show the students how to use Story Bird by showing them how
to add texts, pictures, themes and all the other features that it offers.
When showing them how to insert text, I will emphasize the
importance of making the text box large enough so that all of their
information shows up.
The students have collected information on their presidents, so I will
show them that each page should be focused on one concept, such
as Early Life.
Story Jumper saves automatically so I will tell the students that they
dont have to worry about saving their work.
I will give them examples of how much information should be
provided on one page so that the reader isnt overwhelmed with
information when they are reading it.
By giving them examples and non-examples, they will be able to see
how much cleaner their story will look if they dont put all of their
information on one page.
Before allowing them to start on their final projects, I will go over all
the steps that Ive shown them and give them any other tips that will
help them with their stories.

Describe how you will check for students understanding before moving on
to guided practice.
Before moving on to the guided practice, I will answer any questions that
the students have and take any suggestions on what tools they want to
know more about. I will also go over with them again the importance of
organization and how it will make their stories flow smoother.

We Do
(Teacher engages students in guided practice)
Describe the learning activities you will use to provide students multiple opportunities to
practice the skills and content needed to meet the learning objective(s).
Together we will login to Story Jumper.
Once the students have logged in, the home screen will appear.
Here they will click on the story that theyve already started.
Together we will create a text box on a new page.
Once they have created a text, we will type My president is.
This will act as an example on how to add text. After we do that
together, I will have the students show me on their own how to add
text and how they can make their text box larger.
The students were interested in changing their text color and font, so
I will have them show me how to do change it, as I exampled in the
lesson implementation.
Together, I will go over any other features in Story Jumper that the
students want to know about.
After the students understand how to add text and pictures to their
stories, I will show them how to download pictures from the internet
so that they can be imported into their presentation.

Describe how you will check for students understanding before moving on to independent
practice.
Before moving onto the independent practice, I will have the students
show me a few skills on the computer and Story Jumper. This will refresh
their memory and give them an opportunity to ask any last minute
questions that they have about the website.
You Do
(Students engage in independent practice)
Describe what the students will do to independently practice the knowledge and skills
required by the lesson objectives? (this is the post-assessment)
The students will create their own presentations on Story Jumper to present
the information that theyve gathered on the presidents theyve been
researching. The presentation will provide all the information that is
required by the teacher along with pictures and their own personal layout
of the book. All of the students will be required to use their creativity to
come up with a unique and individual story.

APPENDIX: Include a blank copy of your post-assessment.

Is your BLANK COPY of the post-assessment included at the end of this
lesson plan?

Lesson Closing
Describe how you will reemphasize the lesson objective and any
skills/content that were taught in an interactive manner (whole/small
group, etc.).
As a group, I will go over the questions that I asked my group at the
beginning of the lesson. I will also have them show me in their story, some
of their favorite facts as a way of showing that they have organized the
story in a manageable way. By having them show me where some of their
text is, itll also review some of the computer skills that we went over.

ANALYZE
(This portion may only be done after the post assessment is
collected/scored.)
Describe the results of the Post-Assessment and be sure to address the following:
Students progress from pre-to-post assessment. (if applicable)
Factors that may have influenced the post assessment results.
How the results of the post assessment highlight what areas of the
lesson will require re-teaching (if any).
If applicable, insert a table/chart/graph (below) that shows the post-assessment data
results. If you used the same document for both the pre and post assessments, it is strongly
encouraged that you show the comparison.
Insert an image of your table/chart/graph here.

Description:

REFLECT
List and describe two things you feel you did well to plan, implement, or assess instruction
(successes).
The students were very open to having the teacher help them and
suggest ideas on where to place some of their information. Some of
the students didnt have their information organized, so they took
the teachers advice on where they should put the information.
They also knew how to get into their accounts with the username
and password, that was provided on a notecard, which made the
process go a lot quicker. I felt that I was very helpful to them because
I was able to answer any questions that they had about Story Jumper.

List and describe two things you feel were challenges during the planning, implementation
and/or assessment of the lesson.
One of the first challenges that I came across was basic computer
skills. The students struggled with typing the information they had
because their curser kept clicking on different areas of the screen
and deleting text.
Another challenge that I came across was the information they had
was unorganized. The students would get confused on what facts
they had already used and which section they wanted to put it in.
All of the facts were cut out into strips, but some of them were cut off
in the wrong areas so the students were confused on where to start
their sentence. This made it difficult to help them put the information
in the correct areas because they didnt know where it was supposed
to go.

List and describe two ideas for redesign you would make if you were to teach this lesson
again.
I would redesign the area of organization and note taking to make it
easier for the students to read and find information quicker. In my
lesson implementation, I would show them ways to take notes and
that would give them the opportunity to pick a way that makes sense
to them.
I would also give the students a layout of how they should be putting
their story together so that there isnt random information on pages
where it shouldnt be. It would make it easier for them to follow along
and speedup the process of creating their story. As the students
reach the end of their stories, it would make it easier for them to
present and show the teacher where they can find things.
