Motor Bus Transfer

Capabilities

Maintain Power Delivery!

If an orderly transfer of the sources to your motors is not

performed, your may subsequently trip your boiler and damage
motors, enduring a shutdown and costly damage - not to
mention lost production ($$$). Our component relays and
complete Syncrotran System will execute the proper transfer of
your critical motor loads.
Your Benefits:

Match the Conditions at the Instant of Transfer:

Our Syncrotran System and component relays address fast (high speed
synch-check), in-phase (high speed synchronizing) and residual
(undervoltage) transfer applications
You can use component relays for specific and predictable transfers that
require two of the three styles, or the Syncrotran System that
automatically selects the best method from the three dynamically during
the transfer interval

Enhanced Power Delivery and Safety:

Dynamically adapts to source conditions, composite motor bus inertia and
voltage decay characteristics to automatically determine the best method
for transfer, even under adverse fault conditions
Mitigate the effects of overvoltage, high volts-per-hertz (overexcitation)
and hard loading (mechanical shock) to your motors by assuring source
transfer with a minimum of electrical and mechanical stress
Avoid needless power plant shutdown due to unavailability of auxiliary
services after faulty source transfer

Motor Bus Transfer Capabilities

Safeguard the Source! The M-0236 Power Transfer Relay allows sources with large
phase angles, or motor buses with low composite inertia, to transfer on the first slip
cycle. In that manner, shock to the motors due to excess power transfer does not occur.
If you don't think transfer near a zero phase angle difference between your motors and
the new source is important, did you know that a 12 phase angle difference can hard
load motors with 30% of full load shock? Stress your rotating machinery does not need
to endure! This is especially true for synchronous motors where the voltage is held up to
nominal during the transfer process.

Even a sm all angle (12 degrees) can cause

large instantaneous power flows

and Instantaneous Power Transfer

Ease-of-Use In a world of menu-driven HMIs on relays, the use of individual control

dials for all tunable parameters offers the commissioning engineer the greatest latitude
and access to tune the Syncrotran System, or any of the component relays The ability
to have all parameters with easy to read, clearly marked controls is a great asset to get
the commissioning task performed properly and in a timely fashion.

Scalable Application If studies show that only two transfer methods will work under
all conditions, a residual transfer can be combined with either a fast (high speed synch-
check) or in-phase (high speed synchronizer). This allows a first cost savings for these
highly predictable applications.

Meeting Utility Standards - The Syncrotran System and any of the constituent relays
meet pertinent ANSI standards, including ANSI C37-90.2 RFI at 35 V/M.

Application Flexibility The Syncrotran System automatically will determine the best
transfer fast, in phase, and residual to match the conditions at the instant of transfer.
Conditions such as depressed voltage, faults, and different power plant loading can all
have an effect on the motor bus inertia and voltage during the transfer process. The
Syncrotran System possesses the high speed measurement, decision making ability and
speed of command execution for motor transfer applications.
