MGSE5.MD.5 Relate volume to the operations of multiplication and addition and solve real world and
mathematical problems involving volume.
c. Recognize volume as additive. Find volumes of solid figures composed of two non-overlapping
right rectangular prisms by adding the volumes of the non-overlapping parts, applying this technique
to solve real world problems.
Brief Description of Learning Experience:
Students would use this classroom blog as a resource to their outside-of-class learning and
communication. The teacher will create and facilitate all online activity through the classroom blog. The
students will use the blog as a communication tool monitored by the teacher, and also complete flipped
classroom assignments provided by the teacher.
The blog could also be used in class during lessons. The teacher will create and provide the students
with access to appropriate online resources from which they can conduct their own learning. This could
include WebQuests, simulations, tutorials, and many other types of instructional software. The students
could find access to it all through the classroom blog. The students would be allowed to post any of their
finished products on the site to be shared with their classmates.
The Flipped Classroom Assignments would be considered homework as well as the pre-learning
experience to build/build-on students prior knowledge. In this particular FCA, the students will be listening
to the audio clip on the blog and following the instructions within it. They will be finding an object in or
around their house that they believe has additive volume.

Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi):

This blog would be on a LoTi 4 because it allows for the collaboration and communication between
students.
Importance of technology:
Using a website-creation tool is critical to the fostering of instant communication and collaborative work
between the students. There would be no way to achieve this without the online resource. Time and
opportunities for learning would be lost without using the blog. Other software and multimedia resources
could be used within the blog.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
Some possible risks by using this online resource could be the unpredictability of what the students may say
or post on the blog, where they may stray or what may pop up while they are online, and loss of internet
connection. The settings would be set so that the teacher must review and approve all posts and additions to
the blog before it may be viewed by others. The blog would be password protected, so that only students
and parents of the students may have access to it, to prevent any outsiders from seeing student work or
gaining access to other information. The parents would have to sign the proper forms in order to grant their
students permission to use the blog and be able to post on it.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
I will be trying a full classroom blog for the first time. I hope to learn the tricks of what makes
classroom blogs so successful for students, parents, and teachers. I hope the students will find it easy
enough to use so that they have the proper motivation to complete the assignments and learn. My learning
goals for this particular activity will be to see if the students understand that all 3-D objects have some sort
of additive volume. It will also be a test to see how accessible and easy-to-use the classroom blog is.
Other comments about your proposed activity: I know that creating and maintaining a classroom blog is
a lot of work. If the outcome is that all students feel connected and included in the blog and it benefits
student learning, then it will all be worth it. This activity should only take 10-15 minutes for the students to
complete, and then it will be discussed in class the next day.
