Subject: Assessment of Project 3

For this project, I edited a transcription of John William Drapers journal provided by Dr.

Wickliff. This was my first experience with transcribing and I found it to be quite interesting. I

had to read the scans of the journal and the transcription simultaneously in order to comprehend

Drapers handwriting. This process gave me the ability to read the journal and check the

transcription more efficiently.

I was glad to use Microsoft Word for this project because I am familiar with it and its processes.

Reading the scans of the journal in a PDF file was difficult because I had to zoom in a lot and the

scans were quite dark. I tried my best to improve the integrity of the transcription by changing

and adding words when necessary. In the end, I believe I was able to make meaningful edits that

will help the larger project moving forward.

For the final portfolio, I would like to silently edit the format of the transcription so that it does

not look so busy. I would like it to look as clean as possible for the authors of the transcription to

check my edits.
