I attended the St. Luke IPEP on January 25, 2017 and it was an interesting experience. I worked
along side other individuals in different disciplines to provide a GI screening of the residents of
St. Luke. I worked with a medical student, pharmacy student, and a student study nutritional
science to perform a brief health questionnaire (specific to GI system). Once we collected the
patient information, together we came up with an effective care plan that suited the residents GI
needs. After we created our collaborative health plan we met with a GI doctor and he discussed
the strength and weakness of our care plan and then filed it away in the patients file so that
his/her primary care provider could review it. After our time with the residents we met with Patty
and the other members of the Clinic to discuss strengths and weakness of the clinic.
Where was this held and what was was program/activity length?
The IPEP was held at St. Luke and it went from 0730-1230
Mass Casualty was held at a Fire Department and went from 0800-1200
I think that this experience was great! It gave me a chance to give back to the community on a
medical level, while also experience what it means to be a public health nurse. I also had a good
experience getting to see how the other medical professions work and the importance of
collaborating with other professionals in the healthcare service to provide the best care to the
patients we serve. This occurred when each of us added something to the residents care plan that
Would you recommend this specific community/professional experience in the future; why
or why not? (Describe)
I would recommend this specific community/professional experience in the future because it was
a good way to give back to the community. It also was good because it demonstrates the
importance of making a collaborative effort to work with different disciplines to provide the best
care possible. I also think that it allows some people to step out their comfort zone and
