Music for Choir
Topic/Title:

Objectives: The students will be able to:
Sing sight reading exercises with correct technique and close to accurate pitch
Use voices to work on musical technique
Perform Steal Away with accurate pitches

Procedures: Stretching
Ask students to stand up
Direct students to follow what you do
Start stretching the arms by reaching to the sky
Then stretch the arms to touch the ground or feet
Stretch out the neck by doing neck rolls (slowly and gently)

Warming Up
Using the piano play a five tone descending scale and ask the students to sing the warm up
on an ah, continue going up the piano from C4-A4 and then back down
Then ask students to do two or three sirens
Have students sing staccato arpeggios starting on A3- A4

Sight Reading Exercise


Pass out sight reading music
Ask students to take two minutes to look over the first exercise
Then regain the attention of the choir to sing through the exercise together

Teaching Steal Away


Play the first voice part measures 1-4
Ask students assigned to this voice part to sing
Play the second voice part measures 1-4
Ask students assigned to this voice part to sing
Play the third voice part measures 1-4
Ask students assigned to this voice part to sing
Direct all three voice parts to sing measures 1-4 together
Play the first voice part measures 5-8
Ask students assigned to this voice part to sing
Play second voice part measures 5-8
Ask students assigned to this voice part to sing
Play third voice part measures 5-8
Ask students assigned to this voice part to sing
Direct all voice parts to sing together measures 5-8
Play the first voice part measures 9-12
Ask students to sing
Play the second voice part measures 9-12
Ask students to sing
Play the third voice part measures 9-12
Ask students to sing
Direct all three voice parts to sing measures 9-12 together
