How to make a diag (diagnosis) cable and establish serial communication with Tejas
equipment using the Windows Hyperterminal
How to make Diag Cable ?
DIAG cable connects the DIAG port of Tejas equipment to the serial port of PC / Laptop. It establishes an
RS232 serial communication channel between the two. If PC is not having 9 pin serial-port then the
following configuration will be required.
[ TejasMux ]----[ Diag Cable ]----[ 9pin-to-USB converter ]----[ USB-to-USB cable ]----[ Laptop / PC ]
When making the diag cable, please give adequate attention to the pin numbering pattern on the
connectors, to ensure that the inter-pin connectivity is accurate.
The following is the Pin configuration. Please prepare the RJ45 to 9pin diag cable as per the pin
configuration given below.
The following is the Pin configuration. Please prepare the 15pin to 9pin diag cable as per the pin
configuration given below. This cable can be used on TJ100CPR4 type of equipment.
15 Pin D -Sub Signal 9 Pin D -Sub Signal
6 DIAG-TXD 2 RS232-Rx
8 DIAG-RXD 3 RS232-Tx
7 GND 5 GND
The numbering pattern for a typical 15pin female D-Sub DIAG port located on the Tejas equipment is
shown below. Please keep this pin numbering as reference, and then create your diag cable accordingly.
After creating the cable please check the continuity with a meter and try it on working Tejas equipment.
The following is the Pin configuration. Please prepare the USB to 9pin diag cable as per the pin
configuration given below.
How to configure hyper terminal and the cable Pin outs for Console connection ?
Select Restore Defaults and then change the bits per second to 57600.
(Select 9600 bits per second for MC-1 [old], LT, MC-4, and MC-4L)
This will set the hyper terminal for the console access. Now connect the Diag cable to the Diag port.
Once you connect the HyperTerminal, the console will ask the login and password.
It is tejas // j72e#05t
After the above please type the following command and press Enter key.
ifconfig eth0
A block of information will be displayed immediately on the screen. The INET address in the second line
