The panels libraries require the creation of specific

1. Panels
The Panels Materials library is the main
design library.
The Quick Design Method uses a combina-
tion of the Panels Materials library and an
associated sub-method.
When you display the list of panels materials,
you can see that the libraries are organised
into 2 main sections:
1. The Quick Design section, materials
named 000-xxxx.
2. The Generic Materials section.
We have assigned a specific sort number to
the materials description.

ascending or descending, the materials will
be sorted by groups with the Quick Design

the list.

2. Edges
Edging is the material that we glue onto the edge
of a panel to cover the edge end grain.
The Quick Design Edges Library uses only 2 types
of edging:

Hardware Libraries
1. Fittings/Hardware
In Polyboard hardware elements or fittings are a series of
holes or grooves that can be set up as a single unit and
applied to connect 2 panels.
The Quick Design libraries contain 2 types of elements that /000-000 : other drilling parameters
can be used according to the circumstances: /x2 : number of previous elements

Sub-methods Libraries
Sub-methods are like style sheets that you can apply to your
project.
Each type of sub-method will set up a specific aspect of the
project to follow a preset series of rules.
Note that Sub-methods can be grouped into one
Manufacturing Method, which in turn can be applied to a
project.
The following pages look at the different sub-methods that
are available.
1. Box Full

2. Materials Style
This sub-method library will tell Polyboard in what
materials to build your project.
The Materials Style Sub-method work in conjunc-
tion with the Materials libraries.
The Default (Dfaut in French) method will set your
projects using the Quick Design materials, using
one material by panel. This will make it easier to
change the aspect of each different part of your
project.
This is fine if you are using an approved supplier,
but if you want to build your project yourself, you
need to apply a Materials Sub-method that will
give a coherent cutting list.
To create a coherent cutting list change the default /int-16/ : secondary thickness (drawer interiors)

conjunction with the Edges Materials library.
Change the Edging Material library to change
globally all the edging of your projects.
The Quick Design methods have been set up
to apply edging only to visible edges.
If you need edging on other panels youll
have to edit the method or better make a
copy and edit the copy.
There are two Methods shown on the next
two pages...
0-edging/all-010
This method will apply 0-edging 01 to all the
panels where necessary.
Heres a cabinet using this method with the
0-edging 010 set to red:
0-edging/cab-010.fac-02
This method will apply 0-edging 010 to all
panels except the facades.
Facades will have 0-edging 020 applied.
Heres a cabinet with the method
0-edging/cab-010/fac-020 applied and the
0-edging/020 set to green.
Have a look at the Using Quick Design
Edging video to see how to use the edging
sub-method.
4. Divisions
The Divisions Sub-Method contains a list of methods that The naming convention used is the following:
define the set back (or overlap) of the internal panels rela-
010-she.mob/fac/doo/rec-10
tive to the other panels.
010- : sort code
In general this will concern the shelves and eventually
uprights relative to the faade. she. : main division type she=shelf, fre=free division,
upr=upright
Note that the faade refers to 2 conditions: mob/ : sub type a=all mob=mobile fix=fixed
An open faade with no faade component or a closed fac- : panel that the division panel is against fac=open
faade with a panel closing it (usually a door). facade, doo=behind door
The default method will set all components flush with the /doo : behind doors
faade, not so good if you have a mobile shelf behind a rec-10 : set back value (recess)
door.
For example:
010-she.mob/doo/rec20
Mobile Shelves behind
doors will be set back 20,
all others flush.
And:
020-she.mob/fac/doo/rec30 Watch the Using Quick Design Divisions video for
more information.
Mobile shelves against open facades and
behind doors will be set back 30mm.
These sub-methods are named 010//description through to Using the Quick Design sub-methods all hardware can be

each individual element.
Applying these sub-methods will enable you change all the
hardware and there distribution rules by changing their Watch the Using Quick Design Fittings Links video for more

6. Regular Drillings
Regular Drillings are holes that are drilled into
the upright panels to comply with the 32mm
system of assembly.
You can apply these drilling to a cabinet by
highlighting a Zone, right clicking and choosing
Regular drillings in the mouse menu.
Note that the drillings will only be added if you
have added a Positioning Rule.
In general choose the 37-37/600z rule.
7. Doors
The Doors Sub-method defines the slack or play around Other codes:
doors.
id : inter door slack
The default method uses increments of 1.5mm. //sld/ : sliding door
Other methods use 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0mm increments. l2 : number of levels
d2 : number of doors
The naming convention used is:
ol : overlap
Bid-1.5/to-2.0/bo-2.0//apd-3.0/to-4.0/bo-4.0/
For example:
Bid-1.5/ : built in door with general value
bid-2.0/dp-3.0//apd-3.0/id-5.0
to-2.0 : deviations from the general value to=top,
bo=bottom, hs=hinge side, os=opening side, id=slack Built-in doors have 2mm slack all round and are set back
between doors, dp=depth and recess for built in doors 3mm from the front. Applied doors have 3mm slack all
//apd-3.0/ : applied door with general value round and 5mm slack between 2 doors.
7. Drawers
This sub-method sets all the parameters for building the priorities. The priorities define how the drawers inside
drawers. components are placed.
But unlike Doors, the drawers sub-method also includes the The other methods reference the priorities and define how

Like the box full sub-method, the drawer sub-methods
contain a specific reference method which we have called

In the Quick Design methods the interior lateral slack is set at 12.7mm.
Watch the Using Quick Design Drawers video for more information.
9. Assembled Pieces
This library works with the Panel Structures and Bars libraries.
See the Panels Structures and Bar Materials sections to see how
they work.
Note however that applying an Assemble Pieces Sub-method to
your cabinet will modify all the framed panels in your cabinet,
whereas applying an Assembly Structure using the Properties
menu will only change the specific panel you are working on.
Conclusion
Whether you are a first time designer or a seasoned manufacturer, if
you take the time to learn how to apply this Method, the Quick Design
Libraries will make using Polyboard easier and faster.
For more details on using the libraries feel free to visit our website:
WoodDesigner.org
Youll find plenty of video tutorials on how to use the libraries and also
lots of information on all aspects of Polyboard.
If you have any questions, need help setting up your libraries or would
like to share your own libraries or ask us to set up a specific library,
please post on the Wood Designer forum.
Dont forget that using the Quick Design Libraries to just design a
piece of furniture only require that you know the very basics of using
the Quick Design Panels Materials. Your supplier will do all the tech-
nical work setting up you design for manufacturing.
The more in-depth aspects can be reserved for professionals needing
to set up there own manufacturing methods.
We hope that you will enjoy using these Quick Design Libraries.
Happy woodworking.
