Proposal for Semester Long Multimodal Project

For our semester long project, we choose to explore the evolution of

cell phones and the impact that each cell phone had on its eras

communication skills. To approach this topic, we will first find out when the

first phone came about, then find the significance for each phone present in

the different decade. In order to present our topic, we will first start off with

an icebreaker game in order to relate the topic to everyone. Throughout our

presentation we will use models of the different types of phones we were

able to collect, along with graphs and statistics. We will use linguistic, visual,

and gestural modes, in order to present our information to the class.

In order to present our research, we will first use the internet to gather

the information that we need. We also may end up interviewing our family

members about the cell phones they used growing and determine the impact

that it had on their communication skills. Lastly, we plan to go to

consignment shops in order to find phones that were used back then. After

gathering all of our information needed, we will present our presentation

through a PowerPoint.

Our proposed plan not only provides information about the

advancement of cell phones impact on our social skills, but it also gives a

real life example of the way phones hinder our communication. Our audience

should care about this topic because one cannot always hide behind a
screen. In order to have a successful life, you must possess social skills, and

texting isnt always going to be there.

Because we choose to focus on the different decades of cell phones it

is fairly easy to spilt up the work load. Jordan choose to take on the task of

researching phones from the 1930s, 1940s, and the 1950s. Along with

finding the phones used in this time period, she will also relate the way that

the phones affected communication during those time periods. Peyton will

explore the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, and Taleaha will explore the 1990s,

2000s, and the 2010s.

Along with the calendar dates provided by Mrs. Raymond, we will also

meet other times throughout the semester. On February 15, our topic pitch

was due, and we met on February 16th in order to write our proposal that is

due on February 20th. After the peer review is done in class on February 20th,

we plan to revise our proposal on February 23rd, in order to submit our final

proposal on February 27th. Over spring break we plan to find as many phones

as we can that we can use for our presentation, and on March 16th, we plan

on meeting in order to discuss what we were able to find over spring break.

On March 20th and April 5th, there is a class sit aside so that we can work on

our research. On April 13th, we plan to meet and finalize our final project. On

April 19th, there is a class set aside for peer review and presentation practice.

Finally, we will present on either April 24th, 26th, or May 1st.

To end our presentation, we will find a video in order to tie together

why this is important to the class. We will also discuss the importance of

having social skills. Lastly, we will ask if there are any questions.
