Emerging Technologies Video Software and Virtual Environment

This video software allows lesson to be videoed and played back for students, outside the

classroom. In the time deficient classroom, this enables student and teacher more time to work

on labs and problems together. Video software will also enable the student to re-watch as often as

needed. Many times, an essential step may be missed by the student due to an occasional lapse in

concentration, or by furiously writing lecture notes.

After reviewing several programs, the software by Camtasia is very user friendly as

quoted by the author. These video lessons may be uploaded to iTunes and assigned as

homework, but also works with Adobe Flash, and the program can produce multiple platforms.

Camtasia performs screen captures in real time. (1) It can also include virtual training walking

tours by changing the background.

I chose this program due to the impact it has on improving student recall. Studies have

shown that the benefits of video presentation dramatically improve students test scores and

cognitive skills. (2) In my own class, I have found that by offering various aids of instruction, the

student will be able to perform mastery of the objective.

Up until now, I would link a YouTube video, a PowerPoint and a live demonstration,

followed by practical application. From my reading I am able to surmise that the software had a

variety of possibilities for editing other media presentations such as PowerPoint with audio,

video and animations, making the content more interesting to the students. (3) I believe by

keeping the students engaged; learning will be fun.

In addition, Video conferencing is the way of the future. Since it is our jobs as teaches to

ready the student for the workplace, it is a necessity for the student to get comfortable with the

aspect while in school. Since Camtasia videos in real time, it is vital for the business

marketplace. Video in the classroom is timesaving and in addition is also an asset in the

workplace. Video software applications will also save the business money, in less travel cost and

increasing productivity and can do the same in the classroom. In addition, todays job interviews

will likely take place by live stream video or pre-recorded questions to be viewed at a later time,

by the interviewer. Businesses, teachers and clients alike can also see the facial expressions and

body language in live streaming, leading to effective communication.

In conclusion, videos either live streaming or playback, will impact education. It will

boost students cognitive skills, making learning more positive. It will ready the student for the

workplace and will create professional skills sets. Students can use video to communicate,

engage and interact with peers, clients, colleagues or mentors across the globe and at any time of

day.
