Professional Growth Plan

First Year Goals: I think it is important for me to continue learning in terms of teaching. Even

though I would have graduated and received my bachelors degree, I am still young and fresh

into my career. I would like to watch at least five other teachers instruct their class. By doing so I

can continue being open minded and develop stronger teaching techniques. Another goal is that I

hope that at the end of the school year at least one of my students gives me a hug or any other

form of gratitude. This to me would show that I have made an impact on stud that students live

which is why I am going into teaching.

Long Term Goals: Five years from now I hope to be a better educator than I will be after

finishing student teaching. I want to have taught both middle school and high school so that I

may have knowledge of various ages in the secondary education level. I would love to be a

mentor teacher as well. I think I could really help a future educator gain knowledge and grow.

This experience would also help me grow through my own self-reflection. Apart from this, I

would also like to either have completed my masters degree or be in the process of it because I

am not aiming for just a bachelors degree. I would like to have read a wide variety of books by

then so that I can gain new knowledge as an educator. I would also like to start a rap club within

my school which focuses on examining conscious rap. From these examinations students would

learn to write their own raps (I tend to think of conscious rap as poems.). Kids are listening to rap

and will continue to do so, so why not teach them and have them become appreciative of its

positive side.

Professional Organizations: One day I would like to be part of the National Honor Society

(NHS). By doing so I can become an adviser and lead a group of leaders down the tunnel of

success. I want to teach in West Phoenix so an organization like this can pinpoint student leaders
and open doors that could have otherwise been closed. The National Council for History

Education (NCHE) also interests me because it is an organization that pushes for historical

thinking. History can no longer be about just dates and definitions. By joining NHCE I can

support this shift in teaching while meeting a community that allows me to gain new historical

knowledge. The National Council for the Social Studies is also an organization that I would like

to join. This organization strengthens social studies within the school system and provides

teachers with the tools needed to prepare students for college and the real world.
