One of the most overlooked aspects of being an effective educator

is the implementation of a classroom management policy. There are

many different components of classroom management including

discipline, restroom protocol, respectful relationships, and many more.

The most important component of classroom management to me is the

positive rapport that is built between teacher and students. As an

educator, if I make an effort to understand the students and get to know

them on a personal but professional level, they will tend to have a higher

degree of respect for my teaching, my classroom, and me.

To refrain my confusing my students, the classroom management

policy I implement is simple and very easily understood. Students are

welcome to use the restroom six times per every semester, cell phone

are permitted to be used once the lesson has been taught and all work is

complete, no sugary drinks or food is allowed in the classroom due to the

close proximity of computers, and appropriate talking is allowed once the

instruction has been given. With the implementation of these rules, I

must be flexible and adaptable to each one of my student populations. At

the beginning of each class, I plan on having thorough class discussion in

which responsibility and ownership will be given to the students to create

a classroom set of norms. These norms will be the detailed rules the

students will follow throughout their time in my class. Giving the students

a sense of ownership over these norms will provide them with

empowerment and a sense of belonging/mutual respect. At the end of the

day, I view myself as a mentor/role model more than a teacher. I am here

to help shape the future and this classroom management policy will help

me do so.
