Every year, from January 18th to 25th, Chris ans all over the world observe a Week of Prayer for Chris an Unity. A theme
is chosen jointly by the Pon fical Council for Promo ng Chris an Unity and the Commission on Faith and Order of the
World Council of Churches. The theme for this year is: RECONCILIATION - THE LOVE OF CHRIST COMPELS US, words taken
from the Second Le er of St Paul to the Corinthians, chapter 5, vs. 14-20.
This year's celebra on of Chris an Unity has special significance because it marks the 500th anniversary of the Reforma on.
On October 31, 1517, Mar n Luther nailed his 95 theses on the door of the Wi enberg Cathedral in Germany an
event which sparked o the very painful division in the Chris an world between the Catholic Church and the Reformed
Churches. On October 31, 2016, Pope Francis and the President of the World Lutheran Federa on embraced each other
and signed a Joint Statement ending 500 years of separa on and animosity.
The main Prayer Service this year will be held at Salvaon Church, Dadar, on January 20, 7:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The
service is being organised by a Joint Commi ee of Catholics and representa ves of the New Life Fellowships. So far, most
of our Ecumenical Services have been held jointly by Catholics and the Main Line Reforma on Churches. This is the first
me that we are having a Prayer Service in Mumbai organised by the Catholic Church and the 'Pentecostal Churches'.
I would urge as many Catholics as possible to a end this Prayer Service at Salva on Church. Let us pray together that the
prayer of Jesus that "all may be one" (John 17:20) will be answered.

God says He will never leave you nor forsake you.(Deut 31:6;31:8;Heb 13:5;Jos 1:5)
Like God, Mary too will not forsake you. In the Bible Elizabeth, her cousin, her baby in the womb (Lk
1:41), the couple at the wedding at Cana (Jn 2:1-6), the apostles in the upper room (Acts 1:12-14) all
experienced the powerful role of Marys intercession in receiving Gods blessing. You too can experience
Gods blessing through Marys intercession during Novena and Feast of Our Lady of the Forsaken.
