Objectives: should be posted in the classroom for the students to reference, as well as
an agenda
by the end of the lesson, students will be able to :
Define chronic stress and relaxation response
Describe four effective strategies for avoiding or limiting stress
Identify three ways to manage stress

Standards:
MACF 1.12 Describe the growth patterns and body changes within human beings
throughout the life cycle (from prenatal through late adulthood), including critical periods
in growth and development
MACF 5.11 Analyze healthy ways to express emotions and to cope with feelings,
including the common causes of stress, its effects on the body, and managing stress
MACF 5.19 Explain positive techniques for handling difficult decisions
MACF 6.11 Identify steps for getting support or help, including identifying resources for
families whose members have special health needs

Activity 1: Question of the Day


The students will enter the classroom and sit in their assigned seat. The question of the
day will be on the board and the students will immediately answer it in their notebook.
Introduction: Review personality traits and characteristics. Relate information as to
why people may act the way they do in social situations, Stress can affect all parts of a
persons life.
Ask the students...
What are the three stages to the stress response
Define the three terms perception, stressor, and psychosomatic response

Activity 2: House of cards activator


Break the students into four groups and give each group a deck of cards. The goal is to
stack a house of cards as fast as possible. NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO SPEAK.
The teacher will measure the towers, students will raise their hands to have it
measured.
Ask the students:
Was this activity relaxing to you? Or did it cause stress or anxiety? Did you like the quiet
classroom? Or do you work better with noise around you?
Everyone has a different
connect to stress release.

Activity 3: Chapter 4 Lesson 1 Understanding Stress Reteaching Activity


The students will complete the lists of ways to manage stress, using the information
read in Lesson one.

Activity 4: Chapter 4 lesson 2 Worksheet


The students will use the information in their books to complete the chapter 4 lesson 2
worksheet independently.

Activity 5: Key Stress Relievers For Me Worksheet


The students will complete the worksheet, listing ten things that contribute to their stress
levels and ten strategies to relieve stress.

Activity 6: Great Stress Relievers Handout


The students will observe the handout and choose their top three stress relievers from
the handout. The teacher will ask students to line up in the number order of their
number 1...2 then 3.
The teacher can reference the few stress relievers that have numerous students in line
together

Ticket to leave: Students will fill out an answer to the question on the ticket to leave,
and hand to the teacher before exiting the room: Todays questions is: What is chronic
stress?
