Grade Level: 3
Content Area: Mathematics
Basic Productivity Tool Used: Microsoft Excel
Standards Addressed: MGSE2.MD.10 Draw a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to
represent a data set with up to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take-apart, and compare problems
using information presented in a bar graph. For example, I would ask how many more people like chocolate
ice cream than strawberry ice cream?

Blooms Level of Critical Thinking:
Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating
Description of how to implement in the class: Students will be using Excel to create a graph to
display their findings. After they complete their graph, then we will think of questions as a group that
we could answer by using our graph. We will have already discussed how to read a graph and how
we can use them in many situations. The students will also be familiar with more than, less than and
equal to. This assignment allows students to learn something new about their peers and compare it
to themselves. I will provide step-by-step instructions for my students.
After my students complete their graph, they will share questions that could be answered by other
students looking and analyzing different graphs. Students will print their graphs, and we will display
them in our hallway.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): LoTi Level 4 because students are engaged in higher-
level thinking skills, engaged in two-way collaborations with peers and mentors, and producing their
own product that is meaningful for them and their peers. They will share their products outside the
classroom.
Description of the sample spreadsheet and graph/chart provided *: I have attached my Excel
spreadsheet as an example for my students to see.

Other comments about your proposed spreadsheet/graph/chart activity: I am excited to show

my students how to insert pictures to use for a unit on their graph.
