This news excerpt demonstrates the importance of music in advertising. Specifically, it

speaks of how putting inspirational music behind sports clips and ads using helps add a positive

connotation. With the new technology available today, the people who make such ads and videos

are able to cut, lengthen, and manipulate the music to be how they want it to be in order to

support their message. This use of music technology brings about a new dimension to sports

broadcasting as this can also be used in studio recordings, news entrance reels, and many other

video components. I chose this article for my research because it signifies the importance of

developing sound technology that helps further the impact sports broadcasting platforms have in

their telecasts and success.

Emotions and Values in Sport." Sport Marketing Quarterly, vol. 25, n'o. 4, Dec. 2016, p.

201. EBSCOhost. 22 February 2017.

This article explains how statistical evidence behind the mood and effectiveness of a

sports teams social media activity affects their sales. Marketing in sports broadcasting is a large

part of the industry, and it is now available on many platforms. Social media has become one of

these large platforms and studies have shown that depending on how tweets and posts are

worded, consumers will respond differently. If a more positive, uplifting connotation is

implemented into the advertising, people will most likely have a positive reaction to the

company. Whereas if a franchise were to just tweet a message or have an extremely basic post,

people are less likely to respond or interact with that company. I chose this article for my

research because it showcases just how important technology, specifically social media, has

become in making sports broadcasting a financially successful industry today.

This article states that due to increase in technological abilities, cable TV companies have

experienced increased ratings of sports broadcasts in the last decade. With this, has come a

necessary increase in prices to access all sports games and shows. Cable companies have now

created all-experience sports packages that their customers can buy in order to watch any sport,

any time. These packages were made available due to new cable technologies that have allowed

different tiers of content for users. These tiers allow different packages of channels to be

bought and used with the payment of a monthly fee. With this increase in technological

advancements, the sports world is broadening by the minute. I chose this article for my research

because it detaches from just social media, and brings technology to the big screen and tells how

sports broadcasting is being effected in households across America.

EBSCOhost. 21 February 2017.

This TVBEurope article discusses how due to how much technology affects sports

broadcasting, broadcasters themselves are going to have to learn how to adapt. Broadcasters are

going to have to communicate with their audiences traditionally but they will also have to learn

how to navigate apps, social media, and small screen displays in order to maintain the audiences

they once had when sports were simply on radio or TV. Learning this is going to create a

diversity to the job, and is going to open up the field to many different types of people. Ones

who can easily navigate technology and also know how communicate sports with an

international audience will become the fields next broadcasting stars. I chose this article for my

research because it shows that due to technological changes in sports broadcasting, many new

jobs and viewing platforms are being opened up to broaden the horizons of the industry.

Portia Vanns article describes how due to social media, womens sports have been able to

come more into the spotlight. Before social media platforms were available, women took a heavy

backseat to men in relation to sports and media coverage. Since the introduction of mass media

outlets online, women have been able to advertise and promote not only their teams but

empowerment for women and young girls to become and be athletes. Many campaigns,

commercials, and short films have been made and posted on outlets such as Twitter and

Instagram that showcase the new role women have taken in the professional sports world. I chose

this article for my research because it displays how technology has played a vital role in

promoting and broadcasting a rather unnoticed side of sports that needs to be displayed.

Constraints of Twitter Users." Sport Marketing Quarterly, vol. 21, no. 3, Sept. 2012, pp.

170-183. EBSCOhost. 22 February 2017.

In this article, the author explains how over the past few decades, social media, or new

media has played a prominent role in sports media. The phenomenon of applications such as

Twitter and Facebook have skyrocketed production and communication outlets for the industry.

They have also greatly impacted sports journalism and sports broadcasting. Particularly, athletes

and professional teams who utilize social media have seen positive growth in their brand. This

has led to an entirely new marketing branch of sports that was never before necessary. New jobs,

opportunities, and ideas are being brought to life simply because of the enormous impact social

media has had on sports. I chose this article for my research because it talks about not only how

social media has affected the broadcasting side of sports, but all of the behind the scenes

information that goes into televising and producing the broadcasts.
