Ref. No.: EX/CE/T/424(bY86/2016 B, CIV ENGG. 4* YEAR 2™ SEM. EXAM, ~ 2016 STRUCTURAL DYNAMICS (EL ~ Il) TIME: 3 HOURS Fall Marks: 100 ‘Answer Any Four (4) 1, a) Develop the Lagrangian Equation to obtain the Equation of Motion of a vibrating system from the D’Alembert Principle. as) b) A 35 kg flow measuring device is placed on a table in a Laboratory. A pad of stiffness 2.x 10° Nim and & = 0.08 is placed between the table and the apparatus. The table is bolted to the lab floor. Measurements indicate the floor has steady state vibration amplitude of 0.5 mm at 30 Hz. What is the amplitude of acceleration of the flow measuring device? (io) 2. a) Explain the Principle of an undamped vibration absorber. (10) b) An approximation to the deflection of a cantilever beam due to concentrated load applied at its free end is given by, nz, (2) = x(1~ cos) Where, L is the length of the beam and v(2) is the deflection at any point along the beam, x is the tip displacement of the beam. The beam is having a cross sectional area “A” and mass per unit length ‘m’. Find the equivalent mass of the beam assuming it to be lumped at its free end. If the beam has a constant ‘ED’ find its first natural frequency. as) 3. a) Obtain the frequency response function of a base excited system and comment on the various characteristic of the same. (1s) ) Obtain the expression for (i) Effective Modal Mass and (li) Modal Participation Factor for a MDOF system subjected to a ground acceleration of di. (10) 4. Obtain the governing differential equation of a vibrating beam with one end fixed and the other end supported on, a spring of stiffness *K’. Assume ‘EI’ and the mass per unit length ‘p’ to be constant over the entire length of 'L’. Comment on the boundary condition to satisfy the equation. Derive the equation from the Lagrange Equation. (25) 5. Develop the Finite Element Equation for an Euler-Bemoulli beam of length ‘L’, Young’s Modulus, E, moment of inertia, I, and mass per unit length, m with both ends fixed. Use two-node beam element and discretize the domain using two (2) elements. Obtain the first fundamental frequency if L = 2 m, E = 200 GPa, 1 = 2.5 x 10° m* and m= 45 kg/m. Assume any other relevant data, if required. 25)
