Abstract
My objective for my research is to display the pros and cons of the development of
medical technology. The research will consist on how medical technology shapes society and
how it will affect the future. I will discuss two different perspectives that talk about the benefits
and potential drawbacks that medical technology can cause.

The development of medical technology has been a concept that many people are
familiarized with. It is a topic that has been around ever since medicine became a large industry
for human health over the last century. It carries a great amount of significance since it primarily
deals with what most human beings are concerned with, their overall health. There has been
many viewpoint and opinions regarding this subject. They range from positive view to negative
views. There are many pros and cons that outline what medical technology can potentially do for
humanity.
Medicine and technology has been two major things that have etched major changes in
human history. It has been something that has changed not only the medical field, but the view
on the overall health of humans. The slightest medical innovations have had great impacts on
society. For example, the invention of anesthesia in 1841 (Bakalar, 2012), has changed how
many doctors operate and perform surgeries. It ranges from the simple invention of the
stethoscope in 1815 to the invention of the first ever artificial l heart in 1963 (Bakalar ,2012). It
has vast history, that keeps changing till this day. The timeline of medical technology just keeps
Medical technology has been around ever since human health became a big concern. Throughout
time there has been many developments that have led to various inventions whether they have
been good or bad. These innovations lead to a revolution in the medical field. For example, it has
led to various methods and techniques on how to treat diseases (White). It also serves as a means
for research on new emerging disease and gives us a way on how to fight them. Besides this, it
also provides insight on how human health can not only remain constant but also how it can
exponentially improve with medical technology research (White). This is some of the many
advantages that the developing of medical technology can provide on the daily basis.
On the other side, the development of medical technology has also led to the monopolization of
the medical field. This means that now human health has turned into a very costly benefit (Baltic,
2014) . Treatment costs has skyrocketed ever since technology has become a big resource for the
medical field (Baltic ,2014). Besides the monopolization of the medicine, the cost to develop
these medical innovations is very big. Many research must be inputted which also requires a big
investment. There is also the probability that the research may lead to failure and potentially
With all these pros and cons at stake with medical technology, the question that comes to
everyones mind is: How important is the development of medical technology? It the one
question that decides the level of importance of this issue and how it can be addressed. By
researching this question, I will gather information on from the core of this subject.

To be able to research this question, I plan to gather three articles that relate to the various
functions of medical technology. The internet will be my biggest resource in this project, since it
has a wide variety of options to choose from. I also plan to choose some of my articles from
scholarly sources like Google Scholar, or ASUs electronic library that leads to scholarly articles.
This is to make sure the information that will be extracted from these sources are not made up
and are sure to have straight facts that relate to the topic.
Besides this method, I also plan to consider to check out some books from the downtown
ASU library that could potentially offer even more concrete information that can support my
medical technology.
With these resources, I also plan to find specific examples that will help me support my
argument with a more definite stand. These examples range all the way from medical inventions
to diseases or to medical catastrophes or failures. Once I gather all the necessary information, I
will create an outline that will dictate the strong points that I want to argue and create my main
essay that will discuss the issue I researched in more depth and clarity.
This topic, I believe holds a lot of significance, because I think that not too many people
know enough of what is moving the medical field nowadays. These people then result in
It holds a lot of importance because it illustrates how the medical field is changing,
whether good or bad and provides people with their own unique view on what is happening. This
also generates curiosity in individuals, that leads them to wanting to find out more on the subject
Besides all this, this also provides the enough level of curiosity for people to want to get
involve in the medical field. The simple question, of what goes on in the development of medical
technology is enough for one to get into the action and want to dive into the issue and be a direct
part of it. It drives people not only to want to know more, but also to branch out into the main
thing. Since the medical field is such a large community with a big demand, this issue hold a
With all this information at stake, I believe that this proposal can branch out into two very
opposite arguments. Each argument will either highlight the overall pros or cons of what the
development of medical technology has to offer. It can also potentially offer a gateway to
provide examples on each side of the argument. Various perspectives will come to into play in
both arguments that will allow the mixing of pros and cons , in order to strengthen the argument
