OBJECTIVES: MATERIALS:
Student will be able to list primary Color chart
and secondary colors with 80% Food coloring
accuracy Clear cups
Water
Given 3 secondary colors, the student Construction paper
will be able to identify the two Crayons or color pencils
originating primary colors for each Plastic spoons
secondary color with 100% accuracy. Paper

When shown an artwork, the student
will be able to describe the colors of
an artwork using 3 out of 5 art terms,
with 80% accuracy.

LESSON OUTLINE
TIME: STEPS:
12:40- INTRODUCTION: -Write Agenda and objectives on the board
12:45 Review and -Agenda

12:45- MOTIVATION: -Have students feel under their desk for papers.
12:50 Hidden colors (teacher should have red blue and yellow papers
tapped under the students desks)
-Ask students to describe what they found
-Inform them that they will be focusing on the
colors.
12:50- EXPLORATION: -Inform students that they are going to act as
1:20 Color testing scientists and see what they can create using the
three colors.
-Inform them that the three colors they will be
using are called primary colors.
-Pass out the color testing chart
-Explain that they will record their findings on the
charts.
-Explain that they will list the colors that they are
mixing and record the new color.
-Pass out clear cups in which water is already
pre-poured.
-Pass around the food coloring bottles
-Have the student add 3 drops of a food coloring
into one cup of water.
-Continue to have students color their waters
with primary colors. (3 total)
-Have students select a primary color and write it
on their chart.
Have them select another primary colors and
write it down on their chart.
-Have them pour some of each of the colored
water into an empty cup and mix it with a spoon.
-Have them record what new color they made.
-Have them repeat these steps until they
complete the chart.
-Walk around and ensure that students are
following directions and recording the right way
-Discuss the chart as a class when finished
1:20- GENERALIZATION -Inform students that the new colors that they

-Inform them that another word for color is HUE.
-Have them copy notes as you go along the
discussion.
-Have students use their chars to make notes.
