The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) is a professional standards body. Through its
leadership, standards and code of ethics, it ensures that practising Quantity Surveyors are dedicated to
maintaining the highest standards of professional excellence.

Building information modeling (BIM) is changing how buildings, infrastructure, and utilities are planned,
designed, built, and managed. Our intention is to raise awareness on BIM among the Senior Professionals
in the construction industry.

With over 19 years experience in
Construction Sector in Ireland,
UK, Middle East and India and
having specialized in innovating
techniques for modern methods
of construction. He has played a
key role in achieving various
manufacturing milestones for
Modular Manufacturing with over
sixty projects completed
internationally throughout Europe
and Middle East for various
sectors from Medical, Education-
al, Hotel and Residential sectors.
In 2014, joined forces with KEF
Holdings to form new joint venture
KEF Modular FZE under technolo-
gy license for setting up in UAE
and India, and being the first
Company in the world to pioneer a
Complete Automated Manufac-
turing Process for Modular
Construction to be launched with
KEF Modular FZE in June 2016.
Prof. Mustafa Alshawi
Director of IEC (UAE) & Institute
of Sustainability and BIM (UAE)
Professor Alshawi is the
Director of IEC (UAE) and the
Director of the Institute of
Sustainability and BIM (UAE).
He was the Associate Dean at
the College of Science and
Technology at the University of
Salford and before that he was
the Director of the Build and
Human Environment Research
Institute at the University of
Salford. He has held many
international advisory posts in
various countries and was a
consultant on a number of
projects for the World Bank, UN
Agencies and OECD.
He is also the Editor in Chief of
the international journal of
Construction Innovation and
the author of over 130 publica-
tions. Professor Alshawi has
first demonstrated the concept
of BIM in 1996 in a fully
working prototype. Recently, he
has won RICS BIM4SME (2015)
award for Best Engagement
and Support Programme for
BIM implementation in client
organizations for his practice
work to help client organiza-
tions to effectively use BIM to
maximize its business benefits.

world-leading BIM estimating
software CostX. He is a
Chartered Quantity Surveyor
with over 30 years professional
experience including 10 years
as a local and national Director
of leading Australian and
International Quantity Survey-
ing Practices.
Simon was a Founding Director
of Exactal and played a key role
in the development of CostX.
Within Exactal he liaises with
construction industry
figureheads and BIM leaders
around the globe, and also
plays an important part in
developing future scope for the
program, as well as training
materials and documentation.
Grant Crow
Cost Planning Manager
MACE International Ltd
Grant Crow brings 23 years
experience in the construction
industry as a cost planner/esti-
mator and quantity surveyor
working for both main contrac-
tors and leading cost consultant
firms in New Zealand, Australia
and UAE- for hotels, residential,
commercial, retail and industrial
projects.
Grants previous roles for main
contractors as tendering and
cost planning manager respon-
sible for producing detailed
estimates, reviewing and
finalizing tenders and producing
cost plans from concept
drawings through to schematic
and detailed design drawings
gives him the ideal experience
and knowledge to provide cost
planning services for medium,
large and mega developments.
Grant has gained a sound
all-round understanding of the
processes and disciplines
required to deliver successful
projects from conception to
completion.
